{{{{{roo}}}}} My husband frequently answers the phone in smart-aleck ways - one of his favorites is "Air Combat Wing, Colonel Nichols speaking. This is not a secure line." It's a good way to scare off telemarketers, but I have to warn people whom I <i>expect</i> to call..!

Long, long ago, our family trucking company operated out of a converted livery stable. So, it is a running family joke to answer the phone (when one is feeling giddy), "[Family name] horse and mule barn, horse speaking." I've been known to do it myself. <g> It's not nearly so much fun now that there's no more trucking company, but what the heck. When I'm in a really BAD mood, and opt to answer the phone, I simply bark, "SPEAK!" <eg><p>
{{{{{Moon}}}}} Happy weekend!

Feeling like you have boring yet polite phone manners yet Moonie? <g> Sometimes I also answer that it is the Morgue: you nab them, we tag them.

OK I am writing this Phone Script for you (BTW I was infamous for my daily answering machine messages, people use to call just to hear them)
Hello. Thank you for calling NORAD, Cheyenne Mountain, Missle Defense, US Air Force Strategic Air Command. This line is subject to monitoring and is unsecure. ? If you are calling to report a UFO press 1. ? If you are calling to report a foreign goverment flying its spy planes near our air borders, press 2. ? If you wish to go secure, press 3 and turn your key now ? If you called to report seeing Jimmy Hoffa or Elvis Presely, press 4 ? If you would like to initiate an action press 0 (the sub menu) ? If you would like to launch a tactical nuclear warhead press 1 ? If you wish to select a random country to bomb that Bush can pronounce, press 2 ? If you think Chenney will set the record for heads-of-state-having-heart-attacks, press 3

Ah, we used to say, "County Morgue, you tag 'em, we bag 'em" and "Forest Home Cemetery, you plug 'em, we plant 'em."
Rick has been known to say, "Speak" into the phone, as well as "Kelsey's Bar & Grille." He and his middle brother used to have these elaborate routines they'd do on the phone. Things like, they'd phone up a bar and Jamie would ask, "Do you have a drive-thru?" They'd usually respond along the lines of, "Um, we're a <i>bar</i>." Jamie would say, "Well, if I pull up outside and honk, can you run a six-pack out to me?" To which they'd invariably reply, "If you're going to do that, why don't you just come in and buy a six-pack?" Jamie: "Oh! I hadn't thought of that!" Jamie is now a sheriff, and was one of the guys to go into Columbine when the shooting started...
