Naw, how about a Dollar Tree (we have 3 of those in the area<g> but one more would be nice!) I'd ask for a Ukrops but they're only in Richmond and I sure do miss their chocolate pies and their coconut cakes!

DLC .. what's worng with land marks for directions??? Sunday we went to church and one of the gals we ain't seen in a while tried to give us directions to her new home. She gave North this , West that directions. A soon as she said the name of a grocery store I knew where she was so I could "follow" what she was saying LOL.

I have always relied on landmarks for directions. However, yesterday was a perfect example of my total lack of directional skills! I went to three estate sales. Since we moved here I've relied on landmarks to find my way around. Now I have to use a map because of all the damage Hurricane Ivan did. The landmarks are missing either completely or they no longer have signs. And street signs? Forget them. Most have some sort of damage. Either they are missing, bent to the ground, bent in half or so twisted by the winds, you can't rely on them at all.

I did find my way around, but it took far longer than I expected. I did get some excellent bargains and am very pleased, especially with my $20 very well made computer desk.

It's a pretty interesting place to drive around right now. It's been a month since Ivan and things are still an awful mess.

Using landmarks is fine if you've lived in a town for a while. Here the landmarks would be, Bille Joe's mommas moms house next to Alices old place thats right after the first left past where the old oak tree fell about 3 years ago....<g>

Don't know Billy Joe or his momma's momma. BTW what happened to cause that old oak tree to fall .. to many yellow ribbons or because of the song " There was a tall oak tree" (G) Ahhh! directions are great or a disaster depending on who is giving them.. or who is copying them. Have a nephew who is smart as a whip. Just don't ask him for directions you will end up in another city. rofl We learned this the hard way. So now if he offers directions we tell him it's ok I'll check with Map Quest

At least we will end up in the same city. lol

We use MapQuest too..for most all directions...I like that they list the exit numbers to use off the freeway and stuff.

Brede..what else did ya get at the sales???

Let's see. I got a skirt that matches a jacket I already have, a sweater, a brand new denim vest for my husband, a candy box full of old jewelry and odds and ends, some books, a galvinized bucket, a bunch of odds and ends office supply stuff, I know there was more, but can't think of it right now.

When we went to pick the desk up on Sat., we also stopped at a Crafts Fair at some church. They had cashmere wraps that were just beautiful. I had to use the bathroom (as usual) and when I came back Greg had bought one for me!

We also went for a motorcycle ride in the morning. Then we goofed off all day Sunday. Like we didn't goof off all day Satuday. LOL!

Well all that goofing off ended up with Greg bringing Dad home from Virginia on Sunday with the house a cluttered mess. I didn't even have clean sheets on his bed. UGH.

Dad doesn't seem to care too much, he is thrilled with the place we got for him. He's already been out there twice in two days!

Unfortunately, I'm not at my best health wise.

Funny I went to mapquest yesterday for my son... they are so far behind they listed streets that no longer exist, He was going to one of the hospitals in Boston.. My CRS didn't interfere and I remembered an easier way for him to get there.. He called and thanked me. Saved him about an hour traveling the way of "map quest".

For me I love to travel by air. If we take the car I want the scenic route. With all the places we have been one of my very favorite was literally driving though the mountains in PA going from Erie to Gettysburg. What a wonderful sight, feeling to be way up and looking down into a small valley. The houses looked like doll houses.
Something that was really really nice and shows the kindness of people my son's glasses broke on route there. When we pulled into Gettysburg there was a small optomotrist office. We stopped to get his glasses repaiired thinking OMG we will have to order new ones. The optomotist took his glasses in the back room, he was there about 45min. When he came back out my son's glasses were in working condition. When we asked the price. He said no charge. No charge and he didnt' even know us. Incredible when you don't expect that treatment in this day and age. Of course that was about 9 years ago.. but still.
A random act of kindness saved our trip. Yes, we did send a thank you note to this most generous man. Then we went on to Hershey Park, after touring Gettysburg. Would you believe my kids enjoyed Gettysburg more.. perhaps because of this random act of kindness they got a new perspective on life.

That's a wonderful story Irish! My youngest son rode a bicycle from Ohio to California on a fund raiser with four friends. The random acts of kindness they experienced are still talked about years later. You don't forget those things.....or you SHOULDN'T, right?
