I have taken an interest in Photography lately. I just love my digital camera!
Anyone else have a passion for Photography?

I used to Zylphan... I have an old Brownie camera my mother gave me years ago. It was the first camera I used for black and whites. I have a hard time finding the film for it now:-( The one thing I have always wanted to do with it was to drive around the state taking pictures of old farms and farm houses and compile them in a book. Sort of like a tribute to a way of life that's slowly dying.

I love photography, but I haven't converted to digital yet. I have used a digital camera for my work though... but I'm not ready to trade in my good old Minolta. I work with photos on a daily basis, choosing, cropping, retouching, integrating into design or illustration... it's fun... images are quite powerful.
One of my most interesting photography projects dates back to University. We had to find a subject, decide upon the exact framing and from that point on, explore anything and everything possible, keeping of course your camera locked onto that specific subject. I had chosen the back porch of an old-old house and just in front of the porch there was a tree.
The most beautiful image to come of that project was a night photograph, with the porch light and the moon as the only light available to reveal an image on my film. I exposed the film for at least 12 minutes.
The lighting was quite interesting and the wind created swirls of out of focus tree branches and leaves which contrasted well with the still lighted porch architecture.
Did I get carried away? Well, an interesting end to this story, is that the photograph was stolen, along with my whole portfolio a couple of years later... I still have the negative (somewhere?), but I wrote my lab notes on the back of the photograph!!!

I like to edit old photos too. I have a picture of my fathers family taken when he was just a young boy. It is pretty old and ragged looking, but I scanned it in and am going to clean it up and make an 8 X 10 for him for his birthday.

I found an article on scanning and restoring photos in this months issue of Digital Photographer magazine.

If so, my advice would be...
...don't be afraid to zoom in, a whole lot,
...stay away from the SMUDGE TOOL,
...and work on a duplicate layer!

I bought a Canon Powershot A80 a few months back and have become totally entranced by the options it allows me for taking a variety of different types of photos. Prior to that I was using a Pentex K1000 mostly. The amount of $$$$ I have saved has made it worth the switch. Now I don't pay for film and processing just to find myself tossing about half of them as not quite what I had hoped them to be. The only down side is that as an artist, I like to keep a slide portfolio of my work. Digital images are fine for CD portfolios, but are lacking when you want to really blow up a piece. I'm waiting for digital to catch up in that respect. I want that 2000 pixel camera!

I love my digital camera! It goes with me everywhere and has more options than I know how to work.

We bought a polaroid digital today for hubby (father's day). It's a 3.2 MB, only $99 and if you bought it and a photo ready printer, the printer was free after all the rebates! Bargain City!!
