Hang onto your hats, ladies! There's one more upgrade coming, and it's a whopper! No.. not the cheeseburger.. or the malted milkball kinda whopper.. sheesh.. WOW's and food..

I know you're thinking, why this whopper of an upgrade when the house seems so clean right now? To get us fun new stuff, of course!

A very few things the upgrade will bring include:

* Better spam controls, to get rid of all those bozos trying to act like they know us while they tell us about the latest, great new website they "found"

* Personal photo albums to upload and organize pictures you want to share with the WOW world. There's also space for people to leave comments about your photos. I believe the comment feature was developed specifically for the Moms and Grandmas among us, because there's no sense posting a picture if nobody can tell you how cute they are!

* A completely new format for the User Profile pages with the ability to customize the page using your own choice of colors/background, to give it more of an individual "homepage" feel. The page now includes a "profile picture" which is similiar to your avatar, but appears on your profile only. It also includes a place for people to leave you public messages, links to your photo albums, your list of friends, your biography/mini stats, recent visitors to your profile page, and your latest posting/activity.

* The ability to create social networking groups, for particlar interests, with their own messaging system and group photo album. There's also the ablity to add bookmarks to your favorite existing social networking sites, with just a click, so you can invite others' to hang out with us too!

* Lots of internal, invisible stuff that will make things run more smoothly, more quickly, and more efficiently.

Since this is an intentional upgrade - unlike the last one

- there won't be significant downtime on the boards. Although, I probably jinxed myself by saying that

I expect to begin installing this upgrade tomorrow - May 2, 2008 - sometime in the afternoon, East Coast time. The boards will not completely disappear during this upgrade and there'll be a status message clearly displayed during the time the boards are inaccessable.. may that time be extremely brief!

When the WOW message boards crashed last month, Transformations (WOW's sister forum) crashed as well. While WOW came through the crash fairly intact, only losing a few weeks worth of posts, the TF database was lost entirely.

I thought I'd take just a moment to post here and invite all you lovely WOW posters to visit TF too. It's very, very quiet over there and I'm positive the folks who have found their way back after the crash would love the company!

Welcome to the (Somewhat) Annual WOW-lo-ween goblin hunt!

At the last Goblin Hunt, our hunters captured most of the goblins that were hiding in the halls of WOW and we were able to return them to their rightful home! But now we have a problem! Our goblin friends have escaped from their residence at Misty Hollow Home for Goblins and taken over our website - again!

A ransom note was left, stuck to the mirror in the WOW bathroom. We still haven't figured out what it was stuck with, so be sure not to touch it without gloves! Ewwww!

So you see, we need each and every one of you to help us gather up these creatures and return them to their rightful home before WOW becomes their official haunting ground!

WOW Presents - The Goblin Hunt!

How to Play:

Goblins have been spotted hiding in various discussions on the WOW Message Boards.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it <g> is to scour the website in search of goblins! The only problem is, we don't know how many escaped and what they look like!

What to do with a Goblin:

If you stumble upon a goblin-in-hiding, you should capture him and tuck him safely away in your WOW Goblin Containment Unit. To activate your containment unit, simply click your mouse on any goblin you find. For security purposes, you will be asked to enter your nickname (those goblins are sneaky, y'know!) before your Containment Unit will open. You will also be asked to enter your email address the first time you activate your unit.

** The first time you activate your WGCU, please be sure to enter a valid email address. Otherwise, we might think you're a rampant ghoul trying to decipher our technology and we will capture you in your own unit! <eg>

How will I know a goblin when I see one?

Any creature that looks like it doesn't belong in WOW is probably a goblin so have your WGCU's ready!

To help you get started and activate your WGCU, we've used some of the "glue" from the ransom note to stick a goblin right here for you! Happy Hunting!

Unfortunately, it looks like we lost a few posts yesterday, and there's some kinks with the avatars and smilies. We are working on resolving those issues, and hopefully everything will be back to normal shortly.

The missing posts have all been reposted, with the exception of a single post in one of the word association games, which wouldn't have made any sense.

The avatars and smilies should be showing normally now, too. Any avatars that are not currently showing will need to be replaced by those users. Sorry 'bout that..
