Doctors...

I've had numerous discussions with my girlfriends regarding this topic. When it comes to doctors do you prefer male or female? I have my gyno, family doc and cardiologist and they're all female. I prefer that due to a bad experience when i was younger. Some women ive found find male doctors more sympathetic to their needs. What say you ladies?

By far as of now, my current gyno Dr.Z is the best! Great bedside manner and etc! He is a rare and unique man! Although I have found some women gyno's who are worse than anything! Yikes!

My gyno is a female and I feel comfortable with her. That's not to say that aren't good male gynos out there; it's just that, as a woman, I prefer a woman doctor.

My doctors practice is a mixed group a married couple and a third male doctor. They also have a couple of nurse assitents who do small procedures like BP and diabetes testing.

My specialist is male I dont mind as long as he does his job properly.

My gyno health is taken care of by the group practice doctors and normally I see the lady doc for pap smear ect, shes great very gentle and she chats away making me feel very much at ease.

However if I have other issues I prefer her husband. I feel he listens better and thinks before offering advice or medication.

What I do like is the fact that I have the choice I dont take that for granted as I know many people dont have that luxury.

cassandra, i think its awesome you have a choice too...my gyno is like a 6 office monstrosity of a practice so theres plenty of choices if i should ever want to switch to a male doctor...the Henrico office i go to right now has 3 males and 4 females...i know i need to get over my issues with male doctors since it was a long time ago so i think it might be good if im "forced" to see a male (females are booked or delivering babies etc)..with my family doctor two of the 8 doctors there are female, ive seen both and prefer one but from what ive heard the women are the best in the practice...even my big tough brothers prefer them...my female cardiologist was hand picked for me by my family doctor andi always see her and am very comfortable with her

Im enjoying my choices right now. Once im enlisted i know itll have to be that i see who i see, hence why im trying to conquer my issues now...

It realy doesn't matter what sex my doctor is.As long as they are doing thier job right.I have relatives that had doctors that didn't know what they were doing. I like the doctors that have a nice attitude. Grouchy doctors are the worst. Nikki its great that you are conquering your fears. It will come in handy when you are enlisted.

Hey Nik, Uni's right. Conquering the fear is the big thing, and being in the Navy you'll have Female and Male doctors. But, if they're Navy doctors they'll be good, no matter what their sex!

id like to provide an update on this. I've been in the hospital since Mar 28 for heart surgery and have had my left breast seen by every cardiologist in the hospital so im pretty ok with male doctors now. I still think i prefer a woman to check out stuff "under the hood" but maybe someday ill get there

Yeah Nik. A good doctor is a good doctor - even if he doesn't have some of the body parts that we do. LOL! It sounds like you've had a bunch of good doctors. As always, I wish you the best!

I like either as long as they are good doctors, and I've had both female and male. I remember my first GYN a youngish Irish doctor. He delivered one of my kids. One day I

was having an internal at his office and he could sense my discomfort so he blurts out: "Have the Swallows gone back to Capistrano yet?" wth?? What was he talking

about, I thought! I never forgot that and now know what he was talking about. lol But

he was sensitive enough to try and distract me from the exam. He was an awesome doctor.

It is important to get your checkups, it's just as important to feel comfortable with the dr you have. You have the rt to change dr's if the one you have is not listening, or doesn't ans your questions, than change dr's. A good repore is a must. That way you know you questions will be answered, your fears be calmed. You have that right. Good luck.

Just been busy taking care of the husband, his work, doctors and insurance. As well as doing whatever I can to help the daughter who is now back with her husband. Then having the grandchildren and etc. Yet the daughter ruined my birthday and the husband did the anniversary. Needless to say, not happy. Yet was able to teach my daughter a good lesson. She demanded respect and a ride to work. Guess what she received? Nothing....LOL Now working on getting money into the house for the bills are piling up. Vehicles need repairs and house needs more work. Then with no internet or computer sort of hard to get online. Hugs to all.
