I'm right there with all you who love to cook and bake. I bake a lot during the school year. I can take what I bake to work and not eat it myself! Teachers don't complain lol

Napolitana, do you cook? Many people who are very good cooks, aren't so great when it comes to baking, and vice versa.
One of the secrets with baking is that you have to be very precise! Good cooks can throw in a little of this and a little of that and it can be fabulous. Do the same when baking and it can fall flat, literally! LOL Make sure you measure exactly and use the right measuring tools and you should be fine! |

Also if you want to bake get an oven therometer. A little one at Walmart is around $6 and that way you can see if your oven "the key to good baking" is cooking at the correct temp! This really helps a great deal - not all ovens cook at the temp the dial says that you set it at. Many times thats why baked items are sorta blah they get overcooked or undercooked.
Then don't open door to chech every 10 minutes to see what the item is doing - this only lets out heat and your baked items can go downhill very fast. Wait the time the recipe says and then check. And yes as Merlynn said You need to measure correctly! But baking is really fun and takes practice to get it right. Try simple bake items at first. Even though I am a great cook and can do awesome desserts - I can not bake a homemade pie crust Nope nope it has escaped me somehow :-/ but watch out for my breads, cakes, and truffles and I do a 'die for fruit cake'.

I love baking. I'm actually in a baking mood now. I can't cook worth much . I'm not a terrible cook. I think if I really put my mind to it....ofcourse I can do it. I've actually been trying to do more cooking. I think the problem is, I always bake and have someone else cook for me or eat out ha.

i've done that olivetan!! except with me, it's my two kids! lol! I have since learned...if you put the cookie dough in the drawer where you normally keep things like carrots, celery, etc. they won't find it. lol...

Me too) I love baking. I'm not a professional cook, but I have lots of secrets how to make the best baked goods. When I cook, each member of my family enters the kitchen every 5 minutes asking "Is it ready already?" It's so annoying sometimes...

Hi Tiffin....I wish you much success.....it sounds so exciting!....I love to bake too....in 09' for christmas gifts to my family...I baked pound cakes....and gave them away to everyone....but I found that because I'm in the mid-west and it's cold in the winter...my cakes fall or run out of the pan when the temp is below freezing....so that puts a damper on baking in the winter for me.....last Thanks Giving I baked a oreo cheese cake....it turned out well....and for Christmas I baked a golden oreo cheese cake....but I'm still experimenting with how to get it really soft and creamy......I want to to learn how to bake bread and biscuits from scratch.....I also enjoy watching the cooking shows on PBS (create).....the have some great reciepes for everytning.....I have decided to try a new meal and a new dessert every week.....cooking and baking is part of my fun time and I find it relaxing...I just baked a 7-up pound cake early this morning....I love to bake at early am hours....like 1a-4a...when it's quiet.......

I love baking muffins. I make them in bulk, then freeze them. Very convenient for quick breakfasts, and my kids love them.
