Honesty

Who would you tend to support politically?
Candidate #1: You may not agree with of all of his policies, but believe that he's basically honest. Or . . .
Candidate #2: You like what he says, but have questions concerning his truthfullness.

I knew that we shouldn't talk about politics. And most politicians are somewhat dishonest.
I suppose that I would support the one that was less dishonest.

First, yes we should talk politics. Women don't do enough of that is my fear.
Second a personal example. I didn't vote for President Clinton (his wife's health care plan scared me away) but I feel somewhat differently about him today. Today in review I do think Clinton is (and was) a believer in "free enterprise" economics. He even signed the NAFTA treaty during his term. And I support this free trade policy. But President Clinton was certainly not honest in his personal relationship with his wife. And I might suggest that if you aren't straight with your wife, how could anyone else be confident in you? Frankly I'm an optimist. I think most people are basically good even politicians. So I will support the candidate that I feel will continue to support the policies of free-enterprise and the power of the individual.

I agree with you, Priscilla. Well, maybe not on NAFTA. But, yes I agree with your other points.

Jennifer, I have my doubts too about NAFTA today. I still favor a "free market" economy but.... when things are totally global and other countries do not (have open an open market) I have reservations. If that makes sense.

It does make sense, Priscilla. I think that NAFTA originally was a good idea, but now it seems like it's hurting us more than helping us.
