How busy has everyone been? (I see it's been a bit since the last post). This is my favorite time of the year! (of course, once the yard is cleaned up) I've started my sunflowers and am happy to say i can't wait to put them in the ground! What's everyone up to this year?

I still need to make a trip to the county extension office to get a list of native plants for this area. I did find out that there isn't a native grass for the area, which suits me just fine. No grass, no mowing. I plan on putting in paths, some tiered places for plants and plant "islands" in the front this year. The back yard is an awful mess, so it will wait until next year. We also want to put one of those big metal sheds in the back to use for a wood shop. I'll have to call code enforcement to find out where I'm allowed to put it.

Hi (((((Everyone)))))
I have been seriously interested in doing a herbal garden. To use herbs to help heal our bodies.Yet wouldnt start one til I have more knowledge on how to take the plant and prepare it in a tea or tincture. SO I searched and found two good websites that gives you the basic instructions. SO I thought to share them with all of you.

it's hotter than HADES here! sigh... Colorado, USA. supposed to be 98 today! UGH! I can't get out in the garden when it's soooooo hot... and it doesn't cool at night till after dark...

it's driving me BONKERS!

what kinds of flowers do you plant???? Here...I love LILLIES...
In spring, i have tulips and irises that bloom, then i have columbine and petunias, then for the hot weather, the marigolds come out with the lillies.

My flowers are starting to bloom. I have planted lavender, sunflowers, and lots of wild flowers. I love wild flowers. OHHH! I also have sweet peas. ( love them)

Oh now I envy you. I have a planter box on the porch but no yard to plant anything in.

PBS is right, it sound lovely and probable smells that way too.

OkieStorm send smiley a big boquet of flowers.....and a parka. Brrrr..it sounds cold. So when do you start to experience spring in South Australia?
(((PBS))) I love Daffodils and Iris'...my favorite summer flower is the large double blooming zinnia's. They tolerate Okla summers and are big and showy. Butterflies and Hummingbirds come too!
Foreverauntie iv'e always wanted to try planting lavendar. Ive had some giant sunflowers one year...let them go to seed for the birds.

I teach my grandchildren to grow and then eat their vegetables by teaching them simple recipes, this is a sure way to get them to eat their veges and encourages them to get their little hands dirty in the garden. smiley from Australia.

great to hear from a fellow gardener, we have tulips just after winter in very early spring all the bulbs bloom, I love roses, I have one called angel face a rich double pink and lots of australian natives like wattle, calistemons, which are a variety of bottle brush, I have a type of lilly which grow only in pots, they are called peruvian lilly, red, pink, varigated pink and white and are the size of a dinner plate when in full bloom, I will be planting out pansies and petunias, also impatiens in the early spring which does not come until September, we will have more snow before then so we cannott plant until then, keep cool or warm whatever the weather is from where you live, keep on smiling

I hope I am sending theses notes in the correct way, I am new to all this so here goes, we do need parkas, we are experiencing snow and cold icy winds and will have cold weather up until September when the early spring comes and then all our spring bulbs will be flowering, lillies, rununculi, tulips, anenome, etc:
we get extremes of weather in Victoria the state I live in from very cold way up high where I live and extreme heat in summer, when we have to watch our water very carefully, we have been experiencing severe summer drought situations the past few summers, so our gardens are suffering somewhat,I do have several lavenders one english, one french and one italian, they grow very well here and don,t require much water, so keep cool and happy gardening

I live in Colorado..and we are having one of our driest years on record this year..so far....short 7" of rain for the summer...
