trazadone works as a sleep aid very well. Was prescribed for me when the "depression cocktail" originally prescribed didn't allow me to sleep. no morning hangover some say happens with sleep aids either.

I've taken it as a sleep aide as well. My psych. said it was orignally an anti-depressant, but the side effect of drowsiness was so overwhelming that they don't use it as an anti-depressant much anymore. She also told me that it is non-addicitve, and you have to take more than the prescription she gave me to OD on it. It worked VERY well for me. Make sure you can get a full 8 in when taking it though cause when I didn't... I was "groggy" the rest of the day. VIVID dreams too... not scary or anything..just real and IN COLOR.

I was taking 450mg of trazadone a night for my terminal insomnia. Recently, I cut back on the dose and it has helped with the morning blahs. For some people, depression is much worse in the morning. It is for me. Trazadone makes me feel blah first thing in the morning, which is an improvement over my daily morning debate as to whether I am going to bother to keep living the rest of the day.

Reducing the dose has helped. Talk to your doctor about how you feel in the morning: your doc may want you to taper down to a dose that can help you sleep, but still feel alert and rested when you wake up. I take so many meds at night that cause drowsiness, I am a zombie from all of them. Recently I was prescribed Provigil. While it doesn't help my body feel more awake, it does clear up my mind so I can concentrate better.

I think I have been on every medication for depression that has every been made. If I am not posting regularly, feel free to email me.

Thanks, brede. I just started with it, so we'll see how I do before playing around with dosage.

With as much stress as I have been under lately, and my colitis is in a major flare, I went back up to my prescribed dose. I slept well last night, but have the morning "grogs" at the moment. Let me now how things go with you.

Has anyone here known that they were depressed or bipolar and had their doctor tell them that nothing was wrong? Also, how long did it take to get properly diagnosed...

Has the doctor run any blood work? If not have him do a cbc to check everything out. If he/she is still not helping to get the ans. Get a 2nd opinion. BiPolar is treatable.
BiPolar is also hereitary... it can go to the next generation, or even skip a generation...

A lot of things can cause depression.
things that go wrong in your life, to much stress... Medical conditions an underactive thyroid can cause depression. etc.

Your doctor should be checking all these avenues. Whether it's you or someone you care about.. Insist on the tests .. Insist on getting another opinion. YOU HAVE THAT RIGHT.

Good luck and do something nice for yourself today. It won't take the depression away.. it will help you to feel better.

Thanks, Irish. Yes, it's for me. I've got a dr's appointment in a couple of weeks for a yearly physical. And yes, there's a definite family link here...

FWIW, I'm doing better now. Husband is very supportive, so that helps...

Wink Hm here is my thoughts

I agree with Irish....as well as doing a special thing for yourself whenever you can. I try too once in a while even if its making regalia for someone else.

This is a positive mind booster for me.

Plus reinforces my good abilities and talents.

Then relaxing and letting the wind blow in my hair helps a bunch.

But that is my thoughts.

Have a great day!

Whether a lifelong challenge or an occasional rough patch, depression affects every aspect of our lives.

When I am really depressed, I try to learn new things. If I get involved with something new, sometimes I work my way out of my depression. I have gone to a counselor, when I was going through my divorced. I just went to see my tribe's Medicine Man. I thought he could help me with my weight problems. Which is what I have alot of depression over.

depression

Whenever I get depressed,I look @ the world around me and see other people are worst off than I am. And then I thank God that I don't have it as bad as others. I also take a look @ my 18 month old grandaughter's pictures and that always cheers me up! My first grandchild makes me very happy!

((( Ladies ))) I think I am in the wrong thread for this..

Can depression cause you to break out? I have this little bumps, don't want to say they are pimps or hives, just little bumps on my face around my eyes and on my arms.. DH says I am depressed. But I have never heard of breaking out when depressed.. Anyone else hear that?

Then again it could be because my body has been through hellO the last 3 weeks.. Between the baby, having 7 teeth taken out and the flu bug.. Maybe a sign my body is telling me to shut down for a spa treatment? ROFL
