Hi Clara! I just posted in the Mental Health->Depressions folder about our chatrooms! lol
(((((( tupi ))))))) Hi sweetie.

Clara, Tupi is a regular in WomensSpace and that's how we met. We got to know each other there. Not all those who chat, post and not all posters, chat. So, between these boards and the chatrooms you will meet a great bunch of women. If you click on the red button at the top right hand corner of the pages labelled "Women's Chats" it will take you to an area with all the information you need.

Clara, those of us who are regulars in the rooms were all new once too. So don't be shy. We will help you learn to chat and you too, will soon become a regular. The roomies are very kind and supportive and if you ever have any questions, just ask and we'll help any way we can. I enjoy chatting and posting but the great thing about chatting is that it's immediate.....no waiting for answers. lol (<- that means laughing out loud and is one of the abbreviations used in chat. Cool, eh?)

I found this WOW about a year ago. When I went into WomensSpace, I was greeted warmly, had a million questions and the roomies were so patient, helpful, friendly and kind and I've been there ever since. I found the chatroom first, and then I learned how to post on these boards. I've been posting ever since and am still surprised and delighted when I find a folder I haven't seen before.

{{{clara, tupi, london, irish, anniejoan}}} Why, I've been here long enough to remember when Annie was the newbie on the block! I started two years ago in November, lived through the newbies in December : and met so many interesting people.
We have great conversations , disagreements , jokes and it's a great place to find someone who will listen when you need an ear ....sounds like a commercial but you will see, if you stay with it!

A heated topic came up tonight: men in WomensSpace. I thought I would congratulate everyone who agreed to disagree with the people who had different opinions than them. This is the main reason I LOVE this place, because SUPPORTING EACH OTHER comes before everything else.

Personally I feel men shouldn't chat if they know they are making a woman feel uncomfortable about sharing. There was another woman who felt men shouldn't come in at all. This was based on her extensive chatting experience and the majority of men she'd come across, no one was singled out. There was a lot of disagreement...A lot of discussion!

Except for one or two people, chatters supported each other's right to have their own opinion. I just wanted to give a BIG thank you to all of you who remembered what the room is all about.

(((((((Everyone))))))

Darn I missed it! LOL

But that is one of the main reasons I stay.
The agreement that we
can disagree. I very rarely disagree with anyone and haven't been put to the test.....

Nor do I hope to be tested. My mother was a highly opinionated woman and stubborn as a mule.
She thought she was always right.. no matter what.
But it is a trait that gave her strength in raising two girls alone.

Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! I could love you women more than my family (grin!) You all have been great so far. Last night, (Monday night) I went into the womensspace chat room. What wonderment! It was sublime. I told everyone I was new and no one bantered me. A bit of joking and running away from the room before they could "force" me into buying pizza, was in the night for me.

It was wonderful, however, I was really terrified and everyone could see it written all over my face. Reguardless, it was really fun. I met a few women and one man I think (unless a womans name is Dwight44).

So can you tell me know these message icon things work. The smileys and stuff? I would love to know. They are so cute hanging all over the place.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::WARNING::::::::::::::::::::::::::

If you tell me how they work, I will be like any other kid, I will play with the "new toy" until you are blue in the face. (so those who want to be helpful must first consider this with me) Ha ha!

Tupi/Seaoats, glad you told me that you chatted by another name, that will help a bit.

See ya all, in the CHAT room and on the boards.

Hasta Leugo,

Clara

((((((((((((((((((((((To Everyone))))))))))))))))))))))))

Welcome Clara! I hope you find your way to the chat room. It's a great place. I've been coming back for 3 yrs this October (Yes, book, I can remember when you were a newbie I found the room by searching for women's rooms on the old server & have been coming back ever since. I used to go to my boyfriend's house just to go online & catch up on the room. I'm so glad I don't have to make the hour long trip anymore just to chat

Re: men in the chat room, my opinion (and it's just my humble opinion & I'm no authority on anything) is that if they can respect the rules, welcome. I know there are some regular's of the male species that come in & I miss them when they're not there. They give a different perspective on some things & don't complain when we talk about something they have no experience in (you know the issues I'm referring to, those ones that make Honey leave the room while I'm chatting even though I tell him EVERYTHING later anyway). It's those ones that thing WomensSpace is a pseudo for DatingService that I wish we could lock out. Unfortunately, you can't weed out the good apples from the bad by the type of apple they are alone. You have to take the time to look at them (& throw away the yucky ones). I'm sorry I missed the discussion, I like debates.
Anywho, I have a dr's appt today so I can't yap much longer, but I will be back afterwards before my brother comes over (he pouts if I'm in the chat room when he visits, some people just don't understand addiction)
Take care all! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{Roomies}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Enjoy the day!

I am new and.... confused

Boardies,

It was my second time in the room this morning and what did I find when I got to the room. Only one other person, it was a man or boy or guy or however I ought to say it, and he was just sitting in there. It really threw me off. He said the reason he was there was to keep the men bashing under control but he was the only one in there. So was he bashing himself? And trying to protect the room for his own banter?

I am not sure how to respond when men are around as I really thought I would be going to a womens only space but I suppose when I go to the room next, I will watch everyone who I buy the pizza for, and see how you all respond. And follow suit!

I am married to a man but I know what to do with him, guess I am uncertain of how to react to people at this point.

I can however say, a man is who is responsible for telling me about this room. He used to come around here awhile ago but no longer does. He was a bit different guy but I am glad he told me of this place reguardless of his oddities.

Have a good one gang,

Clara

(less and less new every time I post)

{{{clare, coolwater (LTNS)}}} If you go to the FAQ button on the top of the page, and then go to smilies, it will tell you how to do them. Big hint: print out the page and keep it handy. Then your notes will be !

My personal favorite : (be careful how you type it...LOL...you'll understand when you see the code!)

Irish Eyes and Bookwoman,

Thank you for the help. I guess I will get to reading about smiles. They are so stinking adorable in a posting. That is all I have to say, as I am off to the chat room (third time there).

Clara

At least once every 4 months we battle about men in Womensspace. I used to battle for the men. I could see that they did no harm and added an interesting viewpoint to discussion.

I changed my mind only after seeing that when men are in the room, the women act differently. The women frequently stop their ongoing discussion, or even their madcap antics, 'cause a man's there. He becomes the center of attention. Women often hang on his every word and some women appear to be really pleased to be singled out for his attention. We call it the Handmaiden Syndrome.

I've yet to meet a man who will admit that he likes being the center of the women's attention in our chat room. However, the wife and mother in me finds it hard to believe a man who claims he only comes for the conversation. Perhaps he's the one man who only buys Playboy for the articles.

Why do I not believe it? We have had numerous male roomies through the last 4 years and all of them claimed to be in our room only because we have intelligent conversation. However, most of them have flirted and played around with the women guests, and some have even paired off and become couples. When people use our room as a meeting place it generates hostility and cheapens our name as a safe place for women to gather and talk together.

I actually don't blame the men, they are lead by their instincts. They instinctively know that where women gather, there will be women looking to impress men. We certainly have that. Shoot, I like to impress men myself! I adore men! I just don't want them hanging out in the one place where I can chat without having them feel they have the right to approve of my comments or argue with my viewpoint or empathize with my feelings. One man tried to tell me how to deal with menopause; he knew all about it cause his wife had been in it for years. When another woman told us once of her dreadful relationship with her husband the man in the room was ready to take her husband on and beat him up for her! Well, Hi Ho Silver and Away! We don't need rescuing! The idea of this room is to become stronger by sharing experiences with women, not to depend on men's approval or services!

I do know that women will continue to kowtow to men, and they will continue to do it in Womensspace. We will continue to argue about it. I'll continue to look like the bad girl. However, after 4 years of experience, I've come to realize that men don't belong in Womensspace.
