I consider myself a LADY, I act like one, and expected to be treated like one. And that includes being called a lady. I can accept being called a woman. But a female - that sounds like I'm being confused with livestock.

You know what....you can refer to me as female or woman but I really cringe at "lady".

Maybe it's being surrounded mostly by males/men that being called a lady makes me feel *unequal*. I've always hated to be excluded from conversations or language because of my gender.

Maybe it's because I'm not all that ladylike in my thoughts and actions.

Just call me "Cod"!

I like being called a lady sometimes, depending on the situation, of course the same holds true for female. I think with both of these words, the attitudes of the speaker are what the real issue is. The pamphlet that started this conversation I think had a real issue. Calling men "men" and women "females" to me says that the writer values men more than women. I suppose because 'men' sounds more personal than 'females' which seems more clinical.

With the term lady, it depends again on what the speaker means. If someone calls me a lady because of behavior that I've exhibited I take that as a compliment. If someone calls me lady because of behavior that they are about to engage in, then they are excluding me based on my sex, and that's not good.

I think that the only words that I do not like to be called are 'girl' and 'bitch'. Sometimes I am one, lol, but I don't like to be called that.

I agree with Cinderellen. This the first time I've been in this folder but here is my input. I have been refered to as ladylike. I don't mind this. Cause I can swear and dress as I please but still be a lady. Sometimes the tem is used in a hurtful way. As for the term bitch. Well, dogs of the female gender are the only thing that sould have that term used with. On forms were you are asked if you are male or female I have no problem. In all depends on the content. As long as its male/female or man/ women I don't mind. as long as it's in taste and not meant to demoralize anyone. any sexual title can be demoralizing if phased wrong. Anyway, as I was going to say, the sterotype "lady" is out dated. I can wear jeans and a ratty tshirt and still be a lady. Just as a person who wears a dress everyday can look like a lady but not be one. Okay sorry, I'm getting ff subject. I'll stop now.

I'm not crazy about "lady". It's just a personal thing. "Girl" and "lady" make me feel set apart, whereas "female" or "woman" are both okay with me. I guess any term can be used in a condescending way, and in that case, don't even talk to me.

/me looks at Cod and says " hey lady" LOL. I think I understand what you are saying Cod. I don't mind being called "Lady" but alot of the times it is very impersonal. I think my biggest gripe is when the clerk hands me my receipt back and says " Thank you Mrs...." I am not married but because of my first name everyone assumes I am using my "husband's" name LOL. I also hate being called Ma'am when by young adults do it to be sassy.

ROFL! You can always count on me to join in on the intellectual conversations!

So listen, Seth man.. Since you're so new to the dating scene, I wasn't going to mention your female problems<g>, er.. I mean troubles with the women in your life...but since you brought it up. What the hell are you thinking? Stop being such a guy! I thought you were better than that.
