Well i have somethin to brag about LOL. Sallvie has been in Special Ed Kindergarten this year. I got an email from Sallvie's teacher yesterday telling me that Sallvie is prob going to be placed in a higher functioning Sapecil Ed class Oct 17

It seems Sallvie is smarter then they orginaly thought .

I was a mother for 5 years to my cats before I was a mother to Sallvie LOL. /me was so bad that she would actually sign the cats' names to Christmas cards LOL.

well.......let's see.....while I'm here...my son has some issues when it comes to joining teams, sports programs, etc........not the activity part, he is very athletic, but the social part. We tried soccer last yr and he was scared stiff.....begged me not to make him go - of course I didn't make him, I mean it is supposed to be fun, not torture, lol......
But anyways.....we thought....it's been awhile, lets try swimming lessons....so, I knew he would be scared, we sat down and discussed it.....I told him that it was perfectly fine to be nervous, that probably the other kids were too..but that I wanted him to try his best, to take a deep breath, be brave and JUST DO IT.......AND HE DID!!!!!

He did not cry one tear! He went with his teacher and the other kids, and about 5 minutes into the class, he looked up at me and gave me the thumbs up!!! I am so happy - this could be such a stepping stone for this very sports-oriented child......sooooo happy - and very proud....... <G>

{{{{susie}}}} That is wonderful to hear. I have the same kind of kid...not team-sport oriented at all. He starts swimming next week at school, and we shall see how it goes...

(((((Liam))))) (((((Susie))))) I have one of those too, he's such an athletic boy and he just won't do team things. He did go for fall baseball this year, but it's not going so great. The saving grace is that his father is the coach. It's particularly hard because our older son is very into football and baseball. He seems to really like team sports and doesn't have that stage fright that our younger one has.

Cinderellen that sounds like the same situation I had with my oldest two boys. No. 1 son, loved every team sport that came his way and was good at them all. No. 2 son (2 yrs younger) joined some teams but seemed unhappy and intimidated. We let him choose things that he wanted to try and he ended up being the son with the most trophies. He excelled and loved sports like karate, skateboarding, snowboarding, and golf. Some kids do much better in those individual challenges.

(((((Cod)))))We're trying to find something that he'll enjoy. I don't care if it is a sport. I'd be happy if he was playing an instrument or in a chess club. I just really want him to have something that he "does" outside of school. I think that kids really benefit from extra curricular activities.

my baby girl does the same w/team sports - she's atheletic as get out, but very shy around groups of children. she's in both swimming & gymnastics - but i think the gymnastics is gonna be the keeper. she loves it b/c lots of the moves are similar to things i've already taught her from yoga. but i got to say that the main thing i want to brag about right now is her love of literature. i've been teaching her about soliquoys/poetry & now she walks around making up her own & reciting them to anyone who will listen!

These kids all sound great, don't they? I love sports and loved to watch my kids play them, but it's equally exciting to just see them doing something they can put their heart into and enjoy fully. Both Dad and I supported whatever they chose. We sat through LONG HOT AS HELL baseball games, freezing soccer games,
basketball tournaments, etc, but the worst was the time we drove all the way to West Va, extrememly early one Saturday and sat on bleachers from 7:30am to 5pm, to watch our #2 son, spar two times (karate) with boys twice as big as him. He held his own but watching your son get attacked by a boy with a beard, isn't really FUN! The whole family went though and we all had sore seats for a week. Sean never knew about that part though!

huee that's wonderful about your daughter and Cinderellen, I so agree. Sean is also a terrific artist. He lived in the wilderness out west and did trail building and now is back and has a workshop where he builds furniture from lumber that he cuts himself. I say let them try whatever they feel interested in and see where that takes them.

My youngest son had dreams of working in film production and is also very artistic. He now works in Manhattan, in CBS's workshop building sets for TV shows. He loves it!

My oldest is a numbers man, like his dad. He's working in investments and has a wife and son and has his life is pretty well organized.

Sorry I went on here, but the above posts got me going. Raising happy kids is my favorite topic.

See, I didn't even mention my perfect first grandson who will be 1 next month.

Give me time.....

(((((((((((((MOMS WHO HAVE LIL GOBLINS and GHOSTIES)))))))))) Happy Halloween. Let's keep Trick or treating safe and fun by remember a few safety tips. 1. Try to keep eye holes in masks big enough and free of debry so you can see ( forgettting the mask would be better) 2. Trick or treat with a BIG person and lots of friends. 3.Don't go to any unlit houses. 4. Wear brightly colored costumes/clothing and flashlights. 5 Have FUN!!! Reflective tape is a good idea too, if you can attach a few strips to your kids' costumes. Kids love glo-sticks.

Wrap a glo-stick bangle or neckband around your little one. (Oh, yeah... if you happen to love the tyke, let him breathe. Otherwise, leave it tight.)

You know you're Canadian when... you have to design your costume so it will fit over a snowsuit.
