Unhappy

I have recently started having hot flashes. I didnt know how bad they could be. THen to find out that mine are caused from a hormonal imbalance. Well isnt that what hot flashes are based out of? If not, what else am I to think? I have been battling with my weight and health. Yet it seems the weight is here to stay which I dont want it too. Yet having or started to have perimenopause.......well I am not ready. No offense........but I am too young for this I think. Any advice or ideas?
Have a great day!

ANGEL_WOLF I am going through the same thing. It doesn't help when my dr. says "YOU'RE still having your periods? Well, yes and they can stop anytime now thank you! That was 2 years ago at age 45. A yes, I'm still having that unwelcome visit every 28 days if I want it or not! My hot flashs so far have been very mild. The night sweats are no too bad yet either. Then again I have just started taking Remfem. I'll let you know if they help. (I got a free sample)

Angel_Wolf... do you mind if I ask what age bracket you are in?? (I tried to think of a PC way to say that ...and that was the best I came up with! giggle!!)

Are there any other reasons besides "age" that could be causing your pre-menopausal symptoms?

When I went in for my visit last week, my dr. asked me if I had been in a car accident, had surgery, any major illnesses... apparently, any of these can cause a shift in hormones enough to really screw up your system!

Have you spoken to your dr. about HRT?

I had a terrible time with my periods when they started at age 12 and then with endometriosis. I developed clear cell carcinoma on my cervix when I was 28 and had surgery. The doc removed only my cervix, uterus, and two lymph nodes vaginally. She also found a lot of fibroid tumors which she said added to my 2 week periods with only 5-9 days between them. I really didn't have an option on the surgery, but it was the easiest surgery I've ever had.

And I certainly don't miss the periods!!!!

I had a difficult time with perimenopause, partially because of not having periods so I couldn't tell if there was a change or not. It started for me when I was 39 or 40. I did the HRT for a while, but really didn't see much benefit. I took a combination of estrogen and testosterone.

If I recall correctly, there was a report about women going into menopause earlier (and young women starting their periods earlier) that linked it to our food. Many foods, especially meat, are loaded with estrogen and soy also contains plant estrogens. My symptoms eased when I ate a semi-vegetartian diet and did my best to avoid soy and yams.

I don't know if that will help anyone, it is just my personal experience.

I went in for the ultrasound today and they found a polyp/fibroid clinging to the wall of my uterus...so, in the next week or two, I will have to have surgery to remove it. She said it was clear there was a mass there and that it was the cause of the "wacked out" periods. She also said that all my hormones are at a normal level which is comforting.

It is a good feeling to be able to put a name to what is causing the problems, but kinda unnerving to know they actually found something...ya know?!?!!

Anyway... I wanted to let ya'll know what was going on with me...and let ya know I appreciate your warm thoughts and prayers!

{{{ PBS }}}

While I know it's unnerving knowing something was discovered, it's good that you took a pre-emptive approach and that your doc was able to pinpoint this early on.

Now that you know what you're faced with, you can move forward. I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery. Be sure to visit www.hystersisters.com for a full list of tips on how to care for the Pampered Princess. Print it out and put it on your fridge so your family knows how to spoil you rotten and make your recovery as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

This sounds strange, but I'm really happy for you, PBS!

To be honest, I had wondered if you had polyps/fibroid. My doc told me that she had suspected that part of my ridiculous periods were being aggravated by the polyps.

I'm going to have to check out the site that Tango recommended. It sounds like a good one.

Brede.... I know it's weird... my HR person at work thinks I'm crazy...but I'm just so pleased to have a reason for the wackiness instead of being told ... hmmm...must be hormones...which is what I was really afraid of. The procedure sounds pretty simple, and I too am gonna go to the website, although it isn't a Hysterectomy, there is probably some good stuff there anyway.

#1 PBS, Good luck I'm glad that they were able to put a name to it to for you.

#2 Please before any of you start HRT check out all the options and side effects. I started to take them a few years ago, stopped shortly after that because of side effects.. to many questions on them.

#3 Yes, I'm a wee bit older and actually didn't stop my period until let's say Late!! In fact had a hysterectomy just a few years ago.. best thing that I did. Didn't realize how much pain I had until I stopped having it.
Really.

#4 Ask your doctor and get ans to all questions.. take questions with you.. write down answers. then ask more questions.. Have someone with you in case you don't remember what the docator said. ( this happens because of nerves )

#5 Tell you what I'm going to NC for awhile.. when I come back lets have this as a chat subject. Write down questions.. a site you can check out is
MayoClinic.com They have a site in there dedicated to Womens healh. hope I gave the right site.. if not go to search-Mayo Clinic womens health.

#6 I'm no expert just know what I"ve been though. My own experience maybe that can help others... breast biopsies, cysts on overies, misread pap smears, and a hysterectomy.. BTW I'm fine just if we share we help each other. Helping each other is good for all.

( The Rambler rambles on ..)

btw Angel_Wolf perimenapausal can start at a young age sweetie.. there is a blood test that they can do to find out. Some women start the change at 30, some at 40, or 50.. some as late as 60 eeeeeek.

Suggest you all take your calcium and Vit B12 complex the VitB12 helps with the mood swings. Hope that sheds some light.
