If you cut out a mouth, you can use a slice of red pepper for a tongue. (Fasten it down with a toothpick.)
Similarly, you can jam a carrot into the hole you've cut out for the nose. Why not hang a plastic spider from the end of the carrot? Using toothpicks, you can fasten olives into the eye holes so it looks like your Jack-O-Lantern has irises and pupils. Not sure what you could use for ears, but be creative! Hope I've given you some ideas. (Hey, get your mind out of the gutter... Sheeze, Louise! Some people! I tell you...)

If ya'll are real creative you can carve your pumpkins to look like a real live person.. of course you have to be very talented too.
