I find it a lot easier and more time-efficient (not to mention cheaper) to go to the store and buy potatoes.

Doesn't growing potatoes take up a lot of space?

I totally agree with you LiamFan. I grew potatoes once. They took up a lot of garden space and they weren't all that great. All that work and we got two dang meals from those vines.

I was at the grocery the other day and they seel fingerling potatoes for 7.99 a pound. Now, I'll grant that they are small, but for that price, I'll just use reds and cut them into finger shaped pieces.

you can grow potatos in old tyres. As the potatos grow just stack more tyres on top and fill with dirt.

Well my veggie garden isn't doing all that well this year...I have a few tomatoes, a half dozen cucumbers and I might get an ear or two of corn...my flowers on the other hand are happy happy!

Has anyone jump started a garden as of yet?

Living in AZ, growing season is over for me, until October or so, but I love to hear other peoples "dirt".

I have. I'm not doing a vegetable garden, I'm too tired for that<g>, but I have the outside all spruced up and pretty.

I'm growing strawberries in hanging baskets. I watched a show about it and supposedly the strawberries do really well. The foliage is very pretty too, so it's not all for naught if I don't get strawberries.

For the first time this year I've ventured into some perenials too. I love annuals. They are so easy and everything looks so beautiful as soon as you're finished but they really are very expensive. So, while I still have some various containers of annuals for instant color, I've planted some annuals to see how I do.

I also replaced some shrubs I lost this winter with hydrangeas. They're a bit old fashioned but they're coming back into style and I love them. I have a very shady backyard with lousy soil so technically, they should do well. Time will tell.

I'll let you know. :-)

Oooh sounds nice Addie. In my neck of the woods, one needs gloves to work outside today and NOT gardening ones. Pshaw...I want SPRING!

Snowed here today......ugh.....

But I did manage to get out this weekend and get some perrenials in...and guess what I found while I was digging/weeding???

RED ANTS!!! What am I gonna do?? Any ideas?? I also have some of those black ones, still bad, just not as painful, lol.

If you all have any ideas, I would surely appreciate them!

THE best antkiller on the market is Ortho ORTHENE ANT KILLER - sprinkle some on the anthill hill and kapow....the ants carry it back and give it to their queen as a gift! This is great it uses one of their own so no one ever suspects......

The soil in my area is clay that swells and retracts. You'd think nothing would grow here. But this used to be agricultural land where orchards and bean fields grew well, so it's not impossible to cultivate--just challenging.

I grow anything native, anything nostalgic for me, anything that looks like it needs rescuing. So, things get a little crowded around here. This year, the only vegetable I put in is tomato vines. I let them grow up inside metal cages, and by June we are having salad.
