Liam, where is that house? I think it looks great, with plenty of space and I love the basement! The garden is something else too!

(((((Liam))))))))

Home

A house is not
A Home.
A home is not a house.
A home is where
my son wrote on walls,
where I bruised my toes,
my husband dented
throwing a stick to the dog.
A home is in my head and heart,
I carry it

every closing door is opening
past the belly of chaos and change
to potential.

I am Jack's sniveling terror.

There is one thing in this world I fear above all else. I have survived a house fire, an emergency landing in a plane, and run-ins with outlaw motorcycle clubs, and have faced down a loaded shotgun.

But now my Achilles heel has reared its ugly head. There is a massive, active, angry-seeming swarm of bees, possibly Africanized, outside my kitchen window. Helpful neighbors say their numbers are increasing, and I have jumped through the phone hoops, starting with 911 and ending with bee wranglers contacted by the condo association, to have the Bee Man service on its way, supposedly within the hour. The helpful woman on the phone said they're probably into the walls by now. Oh, and did I mention I'm deathly allergic to bee and wasp stings?! ACCCKKKK!!!!!!

I have a pesticide air purifying respirator ready to don in case the pesticide makes it inside, and Ozzy's collar is on and his "cave" (cage) is ready for transport in case they evacuate us. A citronella candle, provided by my cute mountain-man neighbor, is burning on my front porch, and I have a few candles burning inside in case a bee gets in, hoping the smoke might discourage him. Grasping at straws, I know. There is a towel shoved under the front door, and the windows, of couse, are closed tight. Now I must wait for the Bee Man to come save the day before the little buggers get *inside* my condo.

I am chain smoking cigarettes, partly to settle me down and partly to create yet more smoke. Sorry Ozzy!

Just had to share, {{{{{Friends}}}}}. Please send good vibes my way. I really want to survive this without a single sting - that's why the pros were called. And thankfully, the responsibility for the bee removal, and resumably any related damage repair, is covered by the condo homeowner's association.

I still have goose bumps, but talking about it helps. Thanks.

Oh (((((biker)))))!!!!! This is terrorizing!! This happened to my friend Rebecca in Newport Beach last year. An outer wall of her house had to be torn down to remove the hive. Let's hope those bees at your place are still in the scoping-out stage and will gladly go with the beekeeper to a remote area.

And just last night, Fight Club was on HBO, so I can now refer to Jack's unflinching brain.

Hi (((((Everyone)))))!

beeeeesszzzzzzzzz

I hope they all find happy homes elsewhere, biker. Bees scare me too, still. Once, when I was picking blackberries, I walked into a bees nest and got stung everywhere. The only thing that helped me feel better was a conversation with a guy in the emergency room. While we were waiting and waiting for a doctor, he told me a story about the time a building fell on him... and how long it took for him to recooperate. Still, bee stings are frightening.

(((((Les))))) I liked the narration of Fight Club. I thought Brad Pitt was just, well, not menacing. When the film reached the point where Jack was Tyler and Tyler was Jack and they were both missing too many teeth, I stopped watching. So, yes it's true. I've no idea how it ends. LOL

For people allergic to bee venom, bee stings are more than frightening...they're potentially fatal.

My aunt was stung on the lip by a bee that had flown into her coffee cup at school. By the time she was able to get herself to the ER, she was unrecognizable with her head about twice its size. She's lucky she made it there in time.

Rick is deathly allergic to bee stings as well, and carries an epi-pen with him whenever he goes camping or hiking.

{{{Lou}}} I guess Fight Club isn't for everyone. LOL

Well, I'm sitting here typing while wearing a pesticide APR while the man in the bee suit sprays pesticides in my walls from outside. Nothing is quite so funny-looking as the girl in the mask-and-cartridges giving the man in the beekeepers getup and the flashlight a thumbs-up through the upstairs window. I feel like I'm in a strange movie. The Bee Man is very nice, very professional, and won't have to wreck any walls, as the bees are accessible through a 1-inch slit that can be poisoned, then sealed. Wearing a respirator, one cannot eat, drink, nor smoke, so I'm hoping this stage goes smoothly. He's doing my place in the dark because my emergency got bumped by a big swarm at the South Coast Plaza mall that was directly threatening shoppers earlier today. So, I have been patient all day. My cute mountain-man neighbor's name is Jim, and I have offered to drive him anywhere, anytime since he doesn't have a car - seems fair for his alerting me to the bees and sticking by me through this little ordeal.

well, do all those stories make you more at ease ((((biker))))?

Darn, my son Tod's friend and ex-roommate Andy was a bee keeper out in Santa Barbara until recently. You'd LOVE Andy! He's quite a character. He sends me handmade holiday cards signed Love Andy and a paw print from Bob, his chow. He's from Connecticut and drove a car with no seats, except the driver's seat. <g> Now he's selling real estate. So I guess Andy won't be on the job. HOPE SOMEONE IS SOON!

I was dishing out the kind of ease meant to make (((((biker))))) feel less alone in her plight.

Wait...

I just went to the previous page. Bees at South Coast Plaza??? Wow! Were they after the Wolfgang Puck chopped salad? Or perhaps they got wind of the free & unrequested spritz of perfume in the Nordstrom cosmetic aisles? ROFL
