Where is it posted on this website about the content of adult-oriented material not being acceptable? I see nothing in the forum rules for this particular thread and whomsoever disabled my previous post regarding my website has obviously never been there.

What, specifically, was vulgar about my post? This forum deals with lesbian and domestic violence issues in a frank and open exchange. To my knowledge, the only violation of your own rules that I may have violated was writing that the site was for those over the age of 21 and that the content of the site was of an adult nature. These message boards are far more explicit in exploring topics that would be in violation. There was nothing that could possibly be considered even remotely obscene in my announcement.

I followed the link when you posted it and I read the preview chapter.
The content warning on your site states "Some of the subject matter includes non-consentual fantasy." and that theme is reflected in a portion of the preview chapter. Links to sites containing any form of rape fantasy, regardless of the disclaimer, are inappropriate and unacceptable in this forum. |

I suppose since this is your website, I can do nothing about it, but I can't see how any graphic discussions of domestic violence in reality are worse than science fiction.
If you read the disclaimer on the very first page of the site, you also read that this is fantasy only. I don't suppose that really matters. |

While fantasies are important in our life, there are some fantasies that hit too close to home, and I, personally, do not consider appropriate for this forum, which advertises itself as a "safe" forum for women.
The big problem with rape fantasies, imo, is that some men seem to think they are real wishes of women, and act accordingly. Unfortunately, many judicial figures also subscribe to that thinking. It never ceases to amaze me that a judge will think a woman is "asking" for it, and then two breaths later, complain that his wife is never in the mood. |

When women share their experiences here it isn't for other people's entertainment. That is the difference imo. Have you checked into any of the writers groups on yahoo? They can offer some great tips on promotion for sites of all kinds.

I understand Tammy's concern about the content of the site, but the below is directly lifted from the disclaimer that's posted prominantly;
"This site is for adults only. If you are offended by material of a sexual nature, please do not enter this site. "Check your reality at the door. This is fantasy only, and when you leave the site, you'll be returning to reality. It's as simple as that. "Some of the subject matter includes non-consentual fantasy. It is a valid fantasy, but it is still fantasy. In reality, those things explored here are undesirable." My point with recreating this here is that the site takes responsibility and informs potential members up front (on the very first page) that this stuff isn't real. A lot of sites don't even do that and DO give their subscribers the impression that women crave rape and violence. In addition, the fictional character involved in that particular scenario is extraordinarily complex and differentiates between her own sexual fantasies and those perpetrated upon her by others. The reality of life includes the existence of people who are sexually dominant and their partners, who are submissive. This character is the latter due to self-imposed guilt at committing a criminal act, which is an unfortunate human trait which is not only compelling from a story standpoint, but from a realistic one as well. One of my contentions with the deletion of the URL in my original post was that the action was taken without a thorough investigation into the whole facts of the site. The decision was made without even reading the entire first 3 paragraphs, much less the entire chapter, which would have explained why the character experiences these nightmares. The other issue involves the fact that I, as the author, am a woman and the site is geared FOR women. The character having the nightmares is a very strong-willed individual, but, as in reality, she made an inadvertent mistake that wasn't her fault and the disputed scenario is a result of that. If the site just involved this one character, I could understand the concern about content, but she isn't. Hers is just one in a whole list of complicated individuals who interact with each other based on their personalities. Here again, there's nothing I can really do about it and will abide by Tammy's decision to strike the URL. My purpose with this post is merely to present an explanation of the full facts. Thank you for letting me do so. |

I know what you're saying, Cirocco, and understand your feelings. However, if I followed a link in WOW and it went to a page that started off with a disclaimer like the one you posted, I'd be stunned that WOW was giving it a thumbs up. It simply isn't the kind of thing I'd expect WOW to endorse. I'm not saying I wouldn't ever read it, but I'd find it strange that a site that promotes women and women's issues simply isn't the kind of place I'd expect to find it.
Have you considered sharing the website via email with people you feel would be interested? I know I'd be much more comfortable with following a link in email and finding a fantsy page at the end. Sometimes 'word of mouth' advertising is the best. I also agree with Dr.HilieWho that Yahoo newsgroups gets word out very quickly. |
