So...since winter holidays are just a few months away, is anyone planning to get crafty for holiday gifts? Knit or crochet scarves, paintings, etc?

The multi coloured sweaters I made last winter for my granddaughter are now too small so my daughter has returned them, they've been unravelled and a new jacket is being made using one colour as a main and another for edges and collar and cuffs. With some buttons matching the secondary colour to tie it all together it is going to look fab. I will try and upload a photo when it's done (try being the operative word ) I always make jewellery as gifts because I know exactly the kind of ethnic style my girls like. Easy life and all that.

I love the sweaters and jewellry ideas, etherea. I still have a sweater that my mom knit for me probably 20+ years ago for Christmas. About 10 years ago, I'd knit a full-sized afghan for my mom. My sister loved it so much, as well as the colors, which apparently matched the colors in my niece's bedroom, so the following year, my niece got one, too. My sister was happier with it than my niece was at the time. Ah, well... If you can upload a picture of the new jacket, I'd love to see it.

What Willow said, Jennifer. I know people who are good cooks/bakers, etc., who aren't into crafts and who therefore make cookies or other food items for gift-giving. Whatever works!

Not this year thankfully! Last year I started about now and made personalised stockings for the smaller grandchildren and also loads of tiny wee dark red glitter wool drawstring sacks tied with raw jute string and filled with little Christmas chocolate eggs. I no longer do sweaters etc as gifts because most people don't appreciate the time and effort required not to mention the cost of decent yarn.
Two years ago I knitted my baby grandson a beautiful santa sweater and hat to match. His parents were delighted with it and he wore it at Christmas parties, lunch etc. then the bastards sold it on e-bay! I know that someone else will get to enjoy it but..................

We do design and send by e-mail personalised cards for close family members and small children. The children love looking at their own card on the "big screen"

Wow, that had to have hurt to know that the grandson's santa sweater and hat were sold on eBay! Something like that - homemade, and all - would have been great to then put aside after he outgrew them, then hand them to him when he had kids of his own in 20 - 30 years!
And I like the idea of personalized e-mailed cards. |
