I don't know if this is the right place for this, but further to a recent chat on the subject of female genital multation, following are some links to sites on the subject:
The Female Genital Mutilation Education and Networking Project A site on the subject of female genital mutilation with links to message boards, discussion lists, resources, articles, legislation, reference material, etc. http://www.fgmnetwork.org/ Promotion of Initiatives to Eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (ENGLISH/FRENCH/GERMAN) A site with comprehensive and detailed information about the practice of female genital mutilation. We also report on the supraregional project and the approach it has adopted. We aim to show how it is possible to play an active part in overcoming female genital mutilation. (THIS SITE IS AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH, FRENCH, and GERMAN.) http://www.gtz.de/fgm/english/index.html Raising Daughters Aware -- A Page About Female Genital Mutilation Raising Daughters Aware is dedicated to the existence of support and culturally sensitive, qualified medical and advocacy assistance for women who are seeking to avoid, or have already been subjected to Female Genital Mutilation for non-medical reasons. The site provides free online practical information for FGM affected women, their physicians, other health care providers, social workers, counselors and attorneys. http://www.fgm.org/

That's it... I quit!!
I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult.
I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year old again. I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle. . . . . . . .and make ripples with rocks. I want to think M&M's are better than money because you can eat them. I want to lie under a big tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day. I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew was colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset. I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again. I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones. I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, justice, a kind word, truth, peace, dreams, love, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow. So....here's my checkbook, my wallet, my car-keys, my credit cards and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause, "Tag! You're It." |

ROFL WA114 - happy days! Melted ice cream on the back of my hand, the smell of wet grass, joining a fan club. Picture stories, journeys of more than half an hour - to another world! The school play!! Skipping, my first bike, swimming class.
Yes, I'm there - but you can't tag me 'cause it's not fair, and I'll tell.

I'll sit in the puddle and hope for more rain. I loved playing in the mud. And hanging upside down from the swing set. My mom would holler, "Get down, your brains are going to fall out" I think she was right.
