Biker, Ilia is on the Stars on Ice tour.. different critter! Glad you liked the skating. You know, I can never remember Todd's last name, either. He's the current US champ, I should have *some* clue! My favorite pair is Kazakova and Dmitriev. He's SO strong - they do a lift (sometimes, but not always except in competitions) where she is basically standing on one skate on his outstretched hand!! Though I like Elena Berezhnaya, too. My main impression of meeting her was these enormous blue eyes, at about my shoulder level.. she's even tinier than she looks on the ice.

So, here I am in Boston. Spent all day Sunday on airplanes (ick, ick, ick) and was exhausted enough to sleep despite the time zone change. The hotel is pretty nice, though their air conditioning is making my skin feel like it ought to be on a lizard and giving me a nosebleed. The conference is interesting - you can tell it's aimed at management level people.. plenty of caffeine and few bathroom breaks! The best quote so far, is my new sig line.

We skipped out on the afternoon session today, took the T (subway, more ick.. I hate being underground!) over to Boston Common and walked most of the Freedom Trail. Visited the museums inside Old South Church and Paul Revere's home, saw Faneuil Hall and the Old North Church and some cool colonial burial grounds. Some interesting shopping along the way.. Dinner in Little Italy (Revere's house is there) and back to the hotel. In another hour or so, my feet may allow me to walk as far as the bathroom for another drink of water.

Tomorrow night, Harvard Square, which is walking distance from here (though far enough that we might take the T back). Another full day on airplanes Thursday to get home.

Parts of the city are very pretty. I love the history. But overall I'm finding it rather claustrophobic.

{{{{{Kathe}}}}} I took quite a few pictures from the 7th row, so if any turn out, I'll email them to you and you can tell me who is who. I think I shot more pics of the solo skaters, male and female, than the pairs, tho I don't know why. It really is such a cool thing to watch in person. I particularly liked Surya Bonali's strong, decisive style as well as Michelle Kwan's surprising speed coupled with her grace on the ice. I liked Rudy Galindo and Elvis a lot, and a young blond guy in, of all things, a fake muscle suit shirt! He was a cutie! Oh, and there was a gorgeous French guy with longer hair who was very good. The pairs were fascinating, but failing the program I didn't buy, I don't know names. I'm pretty sure I didn't see a woman on one skate being held aloft by her partner. I did enjoy the more serious routines better than the jokier ones, except that Elmer and Bugs routine was *too* funny.

{{{{{Les}}}}} My boss and I got to talking heavy talk about May Day, protests, political activism, etc. You'd like him, I think. He says he gets more outraged and more inclined towards activism the older he gets, rather than getting more complacent.

OK I am dying! my district just went to enterprise server (stupid move) and pc based SASI for grades and admin. Guess what? Apple bought SASI (or so the rumors say) ROFL I called the head of MIS and told him "Hi! Guess what I had heard." They bought the software for 60 million!!!!

Did you see the new iBooks that were launched at noon? I watched the webcast. They sold 24,000 in 20 minutes after announcing the launch! I might get one instead of the G4 laptop and just get the 733 (waiting for the duelies to coe out in July, and the OSX 1.0 fix for logic errors.) Heard adobe will have the new photoshop out of OSX and freehand should be out in June! I cannot wait to go OSX at home!!!!

{{{{roo}}}} Rick is using (and loving) OSX. Drew understands it...I don't <g>

{{{{biker}}}} I used to wear a red star on May Day until I started working with a guy from Russia...I figured it would start a discussion I might not be prepared for. :-\

{{{{{Les}}}}} Todd Eldredge! That was him! He's quite good!

I hear you about the red star - sometimes being supportive of an ideal is badly misunderstood. At leasst with you guys I know you at least know the significance of May Day in socialist societies. So many of my R/L friends are too, too oblivious.

I'm not at all proud of myself this evening. I was stressing on burning gas because it's gone over $2 a gallon, still stressed from the commute, and when I stopped at the ATM near my house and it was CLOSED, I *went off* and kicked at the overhead mirror/camera cover, then pounded the keypad with my fist while yelling like Rambo shooting his 50 cal. Of course, none of this fixed the machine, and now they have video of me raging at the machine. (That would make a good name for a band...) Oh, well, I didn't break anything. I drove to an ATM further from the house after that and got my measley $20 out. I really hate that rage part of me. So does about anyone within sight or earshot. :-/

Oh well, tomorrow is another day. My boss is not just happy but also quite relieved with how I handled the company president and the heater situation. He also said that since telecommuting seems to be making everyone happy, he's inclined to let me have a third telecommute day once in awhile, especially in bad weather (later in the year). I hope so!
