hey hoggggie, why don't you find another way to recruit people to your new chatting space, rather than using another place's message board to do so...hardly seems kosher, does it?

This is a little late, but I've not been feeling the best. I also owe you an email.
Pirate is a sweetheart, always has been. But, he is one of the biggest jokers I've ever known!

We did it! The Federal Marriage Amendment lost in the Senate by a stunning, bipartisan vote of 50-48. We won this historic victory for two reasons: First, because the politics of division don't work, and second: the votes were on our side.
This is a a victory in the right direction. It may not garuntee Lesbians and Gays can marry and have federal rights that heterosexuals have but the federal goverment isn't stopping indivdual states from allowing Gay and Lesbian Marriages either

My thoughts on the issue is that churches have a right to define marriage. Some churches oppose all non heterosexual marriage and others choose to recognize all relationships. The Federal and State governments do not have a right to define marriage in any way at all. The error is in thinking that a "marriage license" has anything to do with "marriage." It is a civil contract with the government and should be called a "union license" a "partnership license" or simply a "civil license." We have disengaged from churches many years ago for their blatant prejudice, silly ideas, lack of seeking or questioning, books of discipline. Their beliefs in gays and lesbians was a huge part of it. We have actually been asked to leave 7 different churches. Three for my being a mental health counselor, two for not giving 10% of our income and dressing appropriately, and two just flat out told us to get out.
I also love the way that "activist" judges are "making law." Hmmmmm, I always thought judges were ther to ensure our rights under the constitution. Especially, the Supreme Court as they ARE the check and balance of the legislative and executive arms of government. I don't think they teach Civics any more.
