Very! Makes me lose faith in Menard's. Don't mention this to you know who tho!

Hey, Terri, you around? I have a row of hybiscus bushes along the foundation. They were planted right before we bought the house and of course looked fantastic and alluring. Now they look sparse and pitiful. Do you have luck with them? Would some fertilizer help? More water? Less water? A REALLY big WEEDWHACKER?

I have a question......Hope that those of you more knowledgeable can help me......I just took a house plant that was sorely neglected and cleaned it up.....aka taking off dead leaves; removed a board that came with it originally!!!! Now I have put in some stakes to hold up the long vines and saturated the soil with water for about 30 minutes......is there anything else I can do to help revive this houseplant? I sure would appreciate it! Thanks! ((((((Roomies & WOW's))))))

What kind is it, Angel_Wolf? If it's a long vine and spindly, it might be good to cut it way back and let it start over.

Cod, my hybiscus here in CA suffer from white fly infestation, so I have to spray them several times throughout the summer. They benefit from being cut back.

Angel_Wolf, I agree with Cod in cutting back those long tendrils of the vine. You should also feed that vine a good indoor plant food and be sure it sits in a well-lighted spot.

They're white.. they fly.. (grinning evilly)

Seriously though, they get long and spindly and look less like bushes as they grow. If you want them to look full, you need to keep them cut back so that they fill out from the middle instead of adding length the the branches they have. Where I had my Hibiscus bushes I preferred to let them get long and leggy, I liked that look, but I don't think that I'd have liked that if they were planted along a foundation.

LOL....I think I could identify them. I guess I should have asked if they were "VISIBLE"?

It's not that they are tall, they are spindly and not blooming well. I have another line of them elsewhere and they are bushy and lush are ready to bloom.

The white flies are very small, but they are visible to the nekkid eye. There may be a difference in how much sun light or rain or shade or shelter they're getting. I lived in a climate that hibiscus are annual because of the cold, but mine kept coming back because it was in a very sheltered and slightly warmer location than my neighbor's.

The white fly infestation has been a problem in southern CA for several years now. These insects especially like hybiscus, though they've also invaded my angel-wing begonias. Anyway, they get so serious that the bush begins to look like it is "bearded," long white webby things hanging from the undersides of leaves. It is nasty, I tell you, and only spraying will help.

I shall go out and peer closely at my suffering plants tomorrow, Lou.

Maybe the sprinkler system is not getting to them. I'll go out at like 3am on Sunday and check.

I have a problem with red spider mites. The dang little beasties have invaded my magnolia tree and my bird of paradise.

I battled white fly for a couple of years. They do love the southern climates of CA and FL. Finally, I had a lawn care company who won the battle for me.

For the spider mites, I've got the chemical to kill them, but I can't reach the top of my magnolia tree so I always miss a few of the little buggers. Then they come back. I figure if I have them so do my neighbors... Insects, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

We had snow last night that didn't stay. It is just so weird to see snow and the leaves still on the trees all limp and such. I was hoping that we'd still get some colors.....but so far, still green or greyish brown.

The first storm of the season is on it's way in No Cal! It's a little stronger than we needed, but we'll take it. I KNEW we'd get rain as soon as I hosed down the patio and washed my car.

Some of my camellias are in full bloom! It appears to be a wonderful year for them. I've never had so many flowers. If all goes as planned I should have flowers blooming all winter.

The animules haven't dug up my bulbs yet, so I probably still have time to buy chicken wire to cover them...
