When do the kiddies go back?
When does your children go back to school? I swear the kids are going back to school earlier and ealier. I remember school starting in September usually after Labor Day. Now the first day of school this year is August 25th. Not saying I'm made the kids are going to school early I'm actually happy

We never went back to school until after Labor Day! Now, school is starting here on August 21, or 25, depending on the district. I think it's ridiculous. Summer was a wonderful time when I was a kid. Long days and warm summer nights with a million crickets chirping, and not so much of a strict schedule.
Summer isn't the same anymore. We used to play, ride bikes, get tan as berries (as my mom used to say), and swim, swim, swim. Pools and beaches and camping out in the backyard. <g> Now it's all about playing Wii or DS and using that word, BORED, from morning until night. I guess they might as well go back to school. They'll never know the joy of the summers that I had. What a shame. |

I absolutely agree!! School here starts the 18th of Aug.
Melynn the summers as kids were great. Playing the outdoor games, riding bikes, jump roping, racing. Grew up in MA and I remember taking the boat to Nantaskit Beach early on a Sat AM.. then running like crazy to get the last boat home at night. We'd manage to get on what we called the dance boat.. They would have 2 ballrooms of bands and dancing. What fun.. Not to say anything of swimming and going on the rides at Nantasket. On Sundays we would take a picnic basket and trot off on the buses to Revere Beach. What fun. .... Red Rover Red Rover send Melynn right over.  Hold the hands tight RockinGal don't let her though.  ... Truth or Dare!! 1 2 3 Freeze, Mother May I ..

My kids start on Thursday. YUP!! August 14th!!!! talk about cutting summer short!!

Pooh, school is starting early in CO! WOW. So wait, school is starting on a Thursday? They start tomorrow? When did the last school year end? |

Yes..they start and end on a thursday...
And our last day of school was the thursday before labor day.... and... isn't it weird that they start on a thursday? teachers reported to school on Monday.

Kids here start after Labor Day and get out some time in June. I think the schools that start earlier know the teachers need more days off. LOLOL

The kids here go back Tuesday (August 19). In FL, they always go back in August, which seems weird to me. I grew up in NY (state, not city) and Connecticut, and always went back the day after Labor Day.

I can relate to the TV thing, PBS. My younger two spent one summer (before one's senior year and the other going into 7th grade) watching TV while I was at work. The last Friday that summer, as we were having dinner, they were discussing what they'd miss most when they went back to school. Turns out they got hooked on SOAP OPERAS!!! They couldn't decide which one they'd miss the most. Finally, one of them admitted that he'd also miss watching Oprah and Rosie O'Donnell (her show was still on).
Guess I should be thankful they weren't outside getting into trouble, right? |

lol..that's what I keep thinking...but JEEZ!!!!!!! give me a break. And yeah...he won't admit it, but I think he watched soaps too!! LOL!
Homework on the first day!! YEAH!!!!! giggle..I"m so mean huh??????well, next year... he'll have a JOB during the SUMMER...sooooo..... hopefully there won't be so much of the sitting on your bum stuff!! DD worked 3 8-hour days a week this year and was still able to be social and get her stuff done around the house... DS stayed at home all summer, and couldn't get his stuff done around the house... hmmm..something WRONG with that picture! sigh.ok.... enough of that... HOMEWORK ON THE FIRST DAY!! I love it! LOL!
