I've been interested in the Myers-Briggs test that sorts people in 16 archetypes (Jungian). Its as fun or as serious as you want it to be. Click Here to take the test Click on the "DO IT" button with your mouse.
At any rate, I'd like to start a discussion here about the test and if people think it's accurate or not.

Cool INTJ here

I'm an INTJ. I've taken this test a number of times and always come out as this. I found a great website that explains to other people how to deal with people like me. I thought it was both accurate and hysterically funny. My whole life I've struggled with "living in my head" and being distant from people.

Anyway here are the points on dealing with people like me I found it at a website FAQ for intjs

* Be willing to back up your statements with facts - or at least some pretty sound reasoning.

* Don't expect them to respect you or your viewpoints just because you say so. INTJ respect must be earned.

* Be willing to concede when you are wrong. The average INTJ respects the truth over being "right". Withdraw your erroneous comment and admit your mistake and they will see you as a very reasonable person. Stick to erroneous comments and they will think you are an irrational idiot and treat everything you say as being questionable.

* Try not to be repetitive. It annoys them.

* Do not feed them a line of bull.

* Expect debate. INTJs like to tear ideas apart and prove their worthiness. They will even argue a point they don't actually support for the sake of argument.

* Do not mistake the strength of your conviction with the strength of your argument. INTJs do not need to believe in a position to argue it or argue it well. Therefore, it will take more than fervor to sway them.

* Do not be surprised at sarcasm.

* Remember that INTJs believe in workable solutions. They are extremely open-minded to possibilities, but they will quickly discard any idea that is unfeasible. INTJ open-mindedness means that they are willing to have a go at an idea by trying to pull it apart. This horrifies people who expect oohs and ahhs and reverence. The ultimate INTJ insult to an idea is to ignore it, because that means it's not even interesting enough to deconstruct.

This also means that they will not just accept any viewpoint that is presented to them. The bottom line is "Does it work?" - end discussion.

* Do not expect INTJs to actually care about how you view them. They already know that they are arrogant bas***ds with a morbid sense of humor. Telling them the obvious accomplishes nothing.

I -love- Myers-Briggs. I've taken the test I can't tell you how many times, including one time by a trained psychometrist who interpreted it for me. I'm XNFP...the X means 50-50 Introvert-Extrovert. I've also come up INFP a few times, but very close to centre.

I find that these tests are very accurate and I've tried to expand my knowledge of them when it comes to teaching and learning styles. I tend to work better following my heart and dealing with big concepts rather than basing everything on "facts," although I am very good with details. I think that some of my natural inclinations towards being an NF have been re-directed as a result of growing up in a family that didn't put a lot of emphasis on feelings or gut instincts and also by my obsessive-compulsive disorder which often causes me to spend much more time gathering information than I would really want. I've often said that I feel like a pancake that was squished in to a waffle iron and was imprinted with an ordered grid instead of flowing free like I want.

I just talked to my twin sister. I was curious if we would test the same or not. Surprisingly, we're close but no cigar. She is an Entj and I am Intj! I think we both have the NT because the family valued stuffing feelings (stoicism) and rational thought above everything else. My mom's family was the opposite, very emotionally charged, gesturing... it always overwhelmed me and made me retreat into my head.

ISTJ in the house

The inspector I be! I have often thought that I should have become a private detective..... could be why my BA is in Anthropology... who knows lol! This could also explain my restlessness. I have felt like it is time to move on to another challenge for quite some time now.

I have taken this MANY MANY times. Thats what happens when your mother is a chartered psychologist

Okay, here's my question...does being an INFP have anything to do with being up at ungodly hours taking personality tests? <g>

Talking

I believe the answer to that is YES!!! One thing that INFPs have is a strong desire for self-knowledge...at least that's what I've found. Perhaps because we're only 1% of the population and tend to feel different from everyone else we seek to understand WHY we are so different. Well, ok, I'm speaking for myself. I've taken every personality, IQ and career type test that I've found online or in books or magazines, some of them repeatedly. The late hour is a bit harder to explain...I'm guessing that it's just a matter of when you get time for yourself to do this kind of stuff and usually that's late at night for most people.

INFP

Healer Idealist here, and I don't put much stake in personality tests. I think of them as kin to horoscopes--amusing. The Idealist in me believes that a human being can't be pegged.

Cool MBTI Type Descriptions (Funny)

ENFJ: "Busybody"
Life's backseat drivers. They seem to know just what's wrong with everybody else's life and have a plan to fix it.

INFJ: "Messiah"
Characterized by the burning desire to change the world, which desperately needs everyone to be NF.

ENFP: "Muckraker"
Creator of hype, distortion, and the perversion of media of information to be wallows of mindless emotionalism.

INFP: "Fanatic"
Always searching for an Answer with a capital A. Unlike the INFJ, they are usually openminded enough to realize the current one isn't good enough after a few years.

ENTJ: "Tyrant"
Knows better than everyone how things should be done and works tirelessly to obtain the power to make it happen that way.

INTJ: "Crackpot"
All facts which don't fit their theories are just wrong. The more all-encompassing and less applicable to reality the theories, the better.

ENTP: "Frankenstein"
The salvation of the world is to be found in this new nanotronic frannistan, of which he just happens to have an
almost-working model...

INTP: "Nerd"
What? you mean people actually talk to each other using mouths and ears instead of keyboards????

ESTJ: "Stuffed Shirt"
No imagination, no flexibility, no common sense, no capacity for tolerance of others with different priorities.

ISTJ: "Bean Counter"
Like the ESTJ but with less vision.

ESFJ: "Gossip"
Like the Busybody, but characterized by the urge to backstab instead of trying to help.

ISFJ: "Sidekick"
Doesn't need much meaning in life, just a person (or baby or pet or car) to spend all their time ministering to.

ESTP: "Beer Drinker"
Loud, crude, plays team sports, kisses and tells. These are the people beer commercials are made for.

ESFP: "Clown"
Always the class troublemaker, they have no respect for anybody or anything. Good at snide wisecracks.

ISTP: "Assasin"
Hates people, and is good at killing them. Young ISTP's are good at killing pictures of people in video games.

ISFP: "Snob"
Revels in the elaborate sensations of wine and paintings and music that are completely indistinguishable to ordinary people. Likes flowers.
