Do you belong where you are?
Just wondering if you feel at home where you live.....would you be happier somewhere else or is this home?

I'm asking these questions because recently I moved back to where I grew up and I have to say I do not belong here. My politics are different ( I'm a liberal, where republicans/conservatives abound) my sense of humor is different......but then again maybe it's just me ROFL When I can, I'm going back to the west coast, somewhere out there, where I feel I belong. I'm not picky, just going to the other coast. Probably will travel to southern california, oregon and washington. I'll stay here and there in Colorado and Arizona. It's just me I guess
I'm sensing with me, it's a place where I belong, an area, with water, sense of self and family. When my Dad goes, there won't be anything here where I am to hold me and it's a relief I'm just thinking part of anyone's sense of self and happiness is where they are. Anyone have a comment? |

interesting topic...
i don't feel that i really belong anywhere, i came from europe to australia and moved in my lifetime so far at least 26 times. i don't really have that structure, i feel that i am guided to go where ever i need to be at the time. strange concept to most people, as so many have the need to be rooted down somewhere, to belong. my last move to this little town in the country is my first attempt to lay down roots again, i am here on my own but want to make it home for some reason.

Well.........
(((((((((Sabra)))))))))
(((((Savannah))))))))) I too traveled extensively thru out my life since my Dad was military. Now that is a good thing yet I know what you mean about belonging where you are at. I live in a town where most of the people are white and some are ignorant sad to say. Then again you'll find that anywhere. I have been able to adjust in most places I land or live. Yet I know I dont belong anywhere except where my heart is. Thus with my family and hubby. Sometimes I dont have that with them so I take a vacation and rejuvenate. Yet for me its where my heart lies. I am now exploring places in this state and have found a few spots that I feel totally comfortable with. That is only my two cents worth. Have a great day!

I just lost my post! I hate it when that happens and with a mind like a sieve, I don't remember what I said.
Of course it was wise and profound, fraught with meaning. I agree with the 'home is where the heart is' adage. So, as long as my husband is at my side, anywhere can be home. I have also experienced life as a single, living alone. Sometimes all you need to feel at home is a space that is yours. A place to be yourself, relax, rejuvenate, watch tv, listen to music, etc. is a sanctuary from the world. Of course, I prefer to be married and living with Gregrr, but if the worst happens, I know that I can create a home of my own.

I really liked Newfoundland! A place where people always stop if you are crossing the street, neighbors look after neighbors, a weekend entertainment is to build a huge fire with all your neighbors, relatives, friends and kids there. And all the adults watch out for all the kids. It is safe to leave your house and care unlocked. Things I had the freedom to do when I was a kid, but could never let my son do.
Now if only Gregor could get a job there. (He works for the largest international management company, so it may be possible!)

There has never been a time when I felt loved or a place where I felt I belonged. I have been emotionally inert for ten years. My therapist tries to make me cry but no one ever has. She made me start keeping a journal when I was twelve because I would not speak. She cries while reading it. I feel nothing, only a mindfulness that I make her unhappy. She is my only friend.

I guess I've been lucky. Most of the time I feel as if I'm where I belong. Except now. I feel as if I cry all the time. I don't know if it's my change or empty nest? My daughter mover to FL over a year ago with her husband and kids. Now my son has left with his girlfriend for PA. I've just moved in with my boyfriend and I am not sure it was a good idea. But I can't move back to the place I was living at. Now that I live with him it seems the only time I like him is while he or I am at work. It's kind of a love hate thing. I almost feel like just saying the hack with it and moving south. Any advice?

Your children are grown and on their own. Now you can do whatever it is that makes YOU happy. If you want to move south, go for it! It doesn't sound like you're worried that you might be leaving the love of your life. If you aren't happy with him then why stick it out? Being on your own can be wonderful! Why spend time with someone who won't "allow" you to hookup your webTV?
My advice? Think about what would make you happy and do it. It's your time! Life is too short as it is, now is your time to enjoy it! |

Double ditto. You have entered a period in life where you have more choices and the freedom to follow your dreams than ever before.
It's not being selfish, it is allowing you to be the true person you are!

As someone who has recently entered into a similar situation (although I like him more often than not) if you don't feel happy - change it. You deserve so much more than mediocre!!!!!

I know it would be hard, but do what is best for you! And if you head south, let me know. I have lived in FL for 42 years!

Hey. I'm really struggling with this right now myself. I moved to PA from WA 5 months ago and don't feel like I belong here at all! I live in a very small town and there is nothing to do and no where to meet people. I think I'm going to moved again as soon as I have enough money. Idk though, I need something till then... I'm just so bored and getting depressed because of it.
