Chatters, Pack Your Bags!

After many months of searching and evaluating servers, we've selected a new and larger server for our chats! On July 11, 2003, WOW will be moving our chats to IrCQ-Net, which is operated by the folks that run ICQ.

At this time, our new rooms are available only to test your connection. We highly recommend testing your connection before the move, to reduce the stress of last-minute connection problems. The following information should help you set up your new connection

Everyone should be able to access this server, most likely using the same chat software that you use right now. You do not need ICQ to access the server, and in fact, you cannot connect to this server directly using the ICQ software.

--> New Server Information

Server Name: IrCQ-Net
Server Address: irc.icq.net
Port(s): 6667

--> How to Connect

** mIRC, Pirch, or Ircle

If you're using mIRC version 5.9 or earlier, choose ICQNet off the connection. For version 6.0 or later choose IrCQ-Net off the connection list. If neither of those options appear on your list, you will need to add a new connection to ICQNet using the server information above.

If you're using Pirch, you will need to add a new connection to IrCQNet. Step-by-step instructions are available at: http://www.wowwomen.com/download/pirch

If you're using Ircle, complete the following steps:

Open Connections Window.
Select Nickname.
Click Edit.
Click Select.
Click Add.
Enter Server irc.icq.com, port 6667, network ICQ.
Click OK, Select, OK

** WOW's Java Chat and WebTV IRCs.

If you chat using the java chat client or the WebTV IRC provided by WOW, you don't need to change a thing. The IRCs and java chat will be updated on July 11 and you will automatically find yourself in the new rooms!

** Other WebTV IRCs

While we can't offer official support for IRCs other than the one provided by WOW, you should be able to connect to our new server by changing the server information, provided the author has included that option. The server information is:

Server: irc.icq.net
Port: 6667

If you are unable to modify your IRC, please contact the author of the IRC for help.

--> Help is available

If you have any problems or questions, help is available in the Chat Server Connection Issues discussion on these boards, in #WomensSpace and #LesbianSpace, or you can email updates@wowwomen.com

We recommend you visit our chat help section on the WOW website if you need help changing or setting up your chat client. Detailed instructions can be found at the following URLs:

http://www.wowwomen.com/chat/chathelp.html
http://www.wowwomen.com/download/mirc

If you use that form on the ICQ website that Raz suggested, you will be sending email to the support staff for the actual ICQ program, which is kind of a waste of time because they don't have anything to do with IrCQNet. It's like calling the phone company because your cable is out

There's a slim chance they'd forward your mail to the right people, but more likely that the folks at the end of that email address are just going to go "duh" because the system requirements for the use of that program state clearly that a PC or a Mac is required.

However... if you'd like to skip the middleman you can email the support folks at IrCQNet directly using this address:

ircsupport@icq.com

And feel free to inundate THEM..

ps.... actually, here, we WOULD call the phone co if our cable was out lol it's all run by one company lol lol
Price County Telephone Company runs local, long distance, internet and cell phone connections as well as cable. Nothing like a monopoly in a small town.

That, and the info the sysop has is not what I do..... Instead I do irc.icq.com and change the port to 7000. I forget who told me to do this but it works. I hvave told others to do it that way too and they can't get in....... 'Twilight chat zone'
I just tried not 5 minutes ago (between posts.) And i still got in with no probs....

I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but the instructions say irc.icq.NET, but I connect with irc.icq.COM and that's what Tartie says she's using. Just an observation.

If WOW were moving back to DarkMyst we would post it here and we would have hosts in the rooms leading people over. You will never receive an email about something as big as a move without seeing it on our website. I don't know who you emailed you but it absolutely had nothing to do with "real" WOW.

What chat client are you using? How are you trying to connect? We'll all do what we can to help.

jaylauri, I didn't mean to suggest that you hadn't received an email from people who are chatting over on DarkMyst. I wanted to clarify that WOW has not moved there. Hopefully the connection issues will be resolved soon. We're looking forward to seeing everyone in #WomensSpace and #LesbianSpace soon!

Lauri, the room on darkmyst is one that someone else on their own made for the time being so that everyone who wanted to stay together while this was fixed could. No it's not associated with WOW.
Melynn, I got a reply from ICQ so far it was a form message, but hey, at least ii was a reply. Took a few days but it's something. Has anyone else at least gotten that much ??

Y'know.. a couple weeks ago, I got a screen on my WebTV that said I had to accept a compulsory upgrade.. so I did.. and then my WebTV box promptly died. I called Tech Support and they said the box was trashed.. so I bought a replacement. Day before yesterday I was forced to accept another compulsory upgrade on the replacement box and now it's scrambled too.

WebTV has been no more help fixing that problem than any of the others.. in fact, the Tech geek last night told me to take my WebTV to a friend's house and "get it out of that environment".. like my PMS is somehow inhibiting it's ability to connect and taking it to some Zen sanctuary will make it all ok again.

BUT anyway.. while I was going through help stuff, I ran across some interesting little tidbits in their Q&A.

I'm removing the names of the servers because I'm not interested in advertising them on our site but these two questions refer to two different servers.. both of which are equivalent to IrCQNet in content.

Quote:
Q. I am appalled by the content of some of the chat solutions you are providing us with direct access. Do you think this is appropriate for your users?

A. All of the chat solutions we recommended for our users were tested and reviewed by MSN TV usability and quality assurance groups. At the time of testing, the chat content was not offensive and deemed appropriate for our MSN TV subscribers. Unfortunately, the content of some of these chat rooms has changed dramatically since our initial testing. We are in agreement that the content on ****** is inappropriate for our users and this recommended link will be disabled in the near future.

Q. The content on ******* seems quite inappropriate for MSN TV. Why do you not take this off your recommended list?

A. When we tested ********, we deemed the content appropriate for our users. Since we started recommending this chat solution for our users, this Web site has seen a large increase in adult and mature audience content. However, MSN TV users have created these "adult topic" chat rooms. We are working with ********* to clean up the content on this site as we move ahead in the future. For family oriented and clean chat we recommend ******* and ******* Chat.
Now, if WebTV is deeming things "appropriate" for their users, then I would suggest the possibility that the ICQ connection issues are not truly connection issues, but rather are MSN censoring their content and probably blocking their users' ability to go certain places.

I can't prove that one way or the other, but it sure is food for thought.. especially considering only WebTV users are unable to access IrCQ and it's not the chat module itself because WebTV users can access other servers. I bet nobody has any trouble at all accessing MSN chat through the WebTV homepage. Hmmmmm.

I'd agree for MSN is passing the buck on this one. I would guess it doesnt want any one using their webtv's. So alas I sit here awaiting hoping that I will get to chat in the irc and chat room I wish too. Not what others deem appropriate for me. I had a mother and she has passed on.....I dont need another mother now. I am an adult. I think tomorrow I am going to make this point loud and clear to MSN/Webtv.
Have a great day!

'rolls her eyes' I hate msn rooms. webbies go in and are 'nick'-guest ppl.never real nicks or real chatters there and a lot of msn rooms do not accept or let guest'ed nicks into their rooms.....
that's just an aside..... anyways.....
if msn was censoring what rooms/servers we could get into, than every webbie would be excluded, not just some. 'rants' THEN WHY DO I GET IN ??????????
o... an idea...

tammy.. anyway, was the upgrade a messenger upgrade or just your average run of the mill webbie upgrade we get every now and agaiin ?? Did you get a PM or RCA webbie, was it the classic or the plus ?? the plus can do pic in pic ,which is cool, but alas i have the classic.
if it was the messenger upgrade you need that, if it was a random one, you can downgrade and there should be no ill efects. i have downgraded once, but you do need the messenger upgrade. If you want, i'll email you the page where you can actually look at what upgrade you haveand gie you the opion to downgrade. 'shrug' it's worth a shot.

'shakes her head in despair'
i don't know what is going on here with all this, but whatever you do, DON'T MOVE US TO MSN !!!!!!!!!!!!
to quote bart simpson... " I don't believe this, but this both sucks and blows"
that applies to msn chatting lol but can also this icq/webbie thing.
