Hi, I'm a new member and would welcome some info about other peoples' experiences on medications they have used and their side effects. I have just been put on ramipril and the side effects are terrible - I cough constantly - any suggestions? Someone suggested today that I be monitored at home to see if I really do have high blood pressure in normal circumstances and or perhaps it just rises in the doctor's office.

I am really excited to be introduced to this womens' group and look forward to some very interesting chats on all subjects.

blood pressure

Hi SUSSEX
You know, for about $20 you can buy a blood pressure cuff if you think you have the Dr office hbp.
Take your own bps..it isn't hard. You just note the first beat and the last beat that you hear and that is your blood pressure.
Some meds do cause coughs. if you aren't comfortable on your meds, tell your dr.
High blood pressure is a serious disorder. I am glad you are keeping on top of it!

Welcome to WOW. I am glad to meet you!

/me goes runnign FAst away from this folder! I have been diagnosed with HBP again! I hate taking the meds the dr put me on because I was always sleepy. I rekon I ought to go back to the dr and see what a workable solution is .

My doc put me on 20 mg. of Zestril once daily for hbp a little over a year ago. I started out taking it in the morning, and figured out it was the thing making me terribly sleepy in the morning, to the point I was on the verge of nodding out at work. I called the doc's office and asked if it would be ok to take it at night instead. (I'm a bit of an insomniac, so being sleepy at night is a good thing!) The nurse said sure, to take it at night. She said other people had made the same complaint/request, and the doc had okayed it for them to take it at night. That works out well for me. I haven't noticed any other side effects. The real good news is that when I went in for my annual 10,000 mile checkup in September, my bp was 122/78. My doc and I both were very pleased that the medication was working so well. I could probably get it down a little more if I exercised, as I'm heavy and could benefit in general from exercise.

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways. And also the Blood pressure tends to rise with age.

If you are having bad coughing when you take your bp meds. Let the dr know. Any side effects again check with your dr. There are so many bp medications out there, they are bound to find one that works with you.
Try & take your med same time each day.
Get a bp cuff at your drug store.. they come with booklets to keep a record. Some even have a memory that keeps your bp recorded.
When you go to the dr make sure you have that booklet / or machine.
My dr had me use mine while there to make sure it was giving an accurate reading.
Sometimes it takes time to get the med right for you.
Good luck, do what you can to improve your pb.
** Don't hesitate to talk to your dr & ask any questions you have pertaining to your health.

High blood pressure is a common condition in which the force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease. And take the vitamin C,Oatmeat for this.
