{{{{{Dance}}}}} Good topic!<p>
I watch NASCAR and NASCAR trucks when I'm stuck at home doing chores like laundry on Sunday early afternoons. I'm watching the Tropicana Winston Cup 400 at that new track in Chicago right now. It's a pretty exciting race, because the new track is presenting all the typical new-track problems: no upper groove, pebbles rising in the pavement, and a tough turn onto pit row. <p>
The trucking company for which my dad works had a truck in NASCAR trucks a couple of years ago, and I got pulled into the truck scene then. I also found out that one of the drivers, Roper, is a third cousin of mine. The Chevy trucks kinda look like my Chevy Silverado, so I pull for the Chevys. <g> The trucks are fun to watch because they're harder to race on tracks built for slightly smaller machines.<p>
I have long said that I'd have to drive a stock car in races on weekends if I ever moved back to the Midwest, because driving here in California is so competitive, and I've become so accustomed to it that I'd need an outlet for that if I lived somewhere again where people consider California drivers "crazy." <g> I think I'd be good at it - I *like* to go as fast as possible, as close together as possible, and I'm comfortable riding right on someone's bumper with someone right on my bumper, everyone jockeying for advantage. Mind you, I don't *always* drive like that (any more!), but I can and I love to. I know that's not NASCAR, but any kind of racing's a thrill, right? ;-)

Hey {{{biker}}} we have this short track dubbed "The toughest track in the south" less than half a mile from my house. Until recently, they had late model stocks running every weekend. When I wasn't at the track, we could sit on the front porch and listen to the cars racing. Many older Winston Cup drivers started or ran at this track. I had the opportunity to drive the pace car for an association my brother in law ran here, what a thrill! I've watched two nephews grow up running mini-winstons, late models, Craftsman Trucks and Busch. I think the highlight of their career for my sister (their other aunt) and me was to score their first truck race here in Richmond and their first Busch race in Loudon. Dance and Misty are always the first to tell me how my nephew is doing if I'm not watching a race, lol.

I'm hoping one year soon I'll make it to the Bristol night race in August...my FIN has given me the tickets two years in a row...and I can't go this year either...sheesh. Hubby is going of course...not fair.

I would love to go to a Nascar race. My hubby has been to Phoenix, California road course and Bristol. Maybe one year soon we can go to the one here in Texas.

My father use to own a stock car and I remember going to those races. A small dirt track every Saturday night for three months. We always had a blast.

hmm My true feelings about Nascar...

It is like golf. Why do men/woman feel the urge to drive 400 miles in a circle? Why do they bump each others cars and throw wine and beer and waste GOOD pepsi by spraying each other? Why do they risk their lives to reach speeds of 160+?
I tell ya why. `cause they are smart! Shoot ya for the money they make, you better believe if my lil butt had the skill and the chance, I would be there too!

/e leaves the room chanting Jeff Gordon Jeff Gordon Jeff Gordon

Addie, I work the race track here in INDY.. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Nicknamed 'The racing capital of the world' Even tho we only host 3 races a year.. LOL The Indy 500 (cart).. The Brickyard 400 (Nascar).. and The Formula One (whatever it is, lil bitty cars) And it seems each year the races get better and better. After 9-11 we did not think we would have the Brickyard, but we did and we had more FANS than ever show up. Security was hell, checking purses and bags, but it was worth it! The support of fans is what makes Nascar what it is today ( well and the sponsers too )

So yes! I am a Nascar fan all the way!
