Yep, that is a worry in our family. Elsie unexpectedly and unavoidably delivered Thomas in a c-birth. Now, HMOs are trying to avoid the cost of c-births by pushing OB's to deliver mothers like Elsie vaginally. This is scary. In August, she will begin working (can this be rightly called "work"?) to become pregnant again and will be looking for a doctor who will not risk her life or her second child's life. 18 years ago I gave birth via c-section. It should have never been, but my doctor was an idiot. Sadly, I was an underinformed first time new mother and didn't fight him on anything. But that's all another story.

13 years ago both my doctor and the local hospital (a very small rural hospital) refused my request for a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarian). Both cited the risk of uterine rupture and death. I don't know if they were just ahead of their time or overly cautious, but I was never sorry for their refusal. The birth was easy and recovery was exceptionally short. If -- God FORBID!! -- I were faced with another birth, I'd jump on the c-secion!

Almost 10 years ago I had a c-section but 2 years later I had VBAC. I was considered a high risk because of that but it was well worth it. I was monitered the whole labor and it all went well. I was offered the c-section if I wanted it and if I ever have another baby I can take that option if I want. But ya know I was blessed to see my daughter make her way to this world passing thru me...It was and still is the most amazing thing I have ever taken a part of.

incoming ventMrHilieWho has done it again!! We've had an agreement for a week that he would come home early and watch the kids during my doctors appointment. (I missed the first one nearly a month ago when he forgot to come home.) Well, an hour before he's supposed to get here he calls and tells me to meet him in a different town on the way to the doctor. He was going to come with and watch the kids in the waiting room...maybe get to talk to the doctor a bit. Well, I went to the address he gave me and he wasn't there. I drove ALL over, for nearly 30 minutes and couldn't find him. Finally I took the kids, and a nurse had to take them to the waiting room during part of the exam

I am sooooooooooo MAD at him.

I get home and he's waiting here for us, and then tried to tell me that he gave me the right directions and it was MY fault I didn't find him! Well, I told him that for my next appointment he MUST come home and watch the kids...and I'm still very upset. What a raging jerk!

Whew, anyway....I heard the heartbeat today! It was so cool, and the doctor is a wonderful change from our last doc. He was almost as excited as I was I think lol

Had to get that all off my chest and make the final comment that men get selfish during pregnancy, and act like horrible brats. If we had a doghouse Denn would be out there right now, with a peice of stale bread and some film covered water

Of course, if I did that he'd probably complain I didn't bring him the butter.

I posted this on another thread too but thought it couldn't hurt...

In April a study was released proving breastmilk to be a natural, and safe, painkiller for infants. Hopefully this will encourage even more women to breastfeed.
