Misty, I am so happy to have the first ghost story in your new folder. Here goes...hope yall like it.
this is a story about a haunted gravestone. this story takes place in a town not too far from the louisville,ky and the indiana border.
John Rowan was a very prominent man duringhis lifetime. he was a state judge of kentucky, and a US senator. he served on the supreme court of appeals also. he was a very rich man as well. he owned Federal Hill, better known as My Old Kentucky Home. ive been to this house, and to say the least, its massive. one of the most beautiful mansions ive ever seen. before he died, he made a provision in his will that he didnt want a stone or a monument of any kind placed at his grave. but his family and friends thought that just wasnt right for a man of his stature to not have a tombstone. so they had a large obelisk shaped stone placed at his grave. within a couple of months, his stone began to fall for no apparent reason. so the stonemasons would go back to the cemetary to replace it. well, after many many trips back to the graveyard, where the stone had always fallen on mr rowans grave, the stonemasons became frightened and refused to go back to the cemetary. several of the townspeople thought that mr rowan had come back to his grave to make his will and wishes known that he didnt want the tombstone there. to this day, that stone still falls over onto mr rowans grave. .......for no apparent reason, or is there a reason after all???

this is a story of a haunting that took place in the town i was born in.
in my hometown, there is a huge cemetary located on the corner of four very busy, and well traveled streets. three of those streets take you to interstates, and one takes you to town. well, at the front of the cemetary, is a house called the Sexton house. the sexton is the caretaker of a cemetary. well, many many years ago, the sexton of the cemetary and his wife had a daughter. she was a well liked, very beloved young girl, very popular with the other young people of her day.
she had been invited to a party that night. her parents told her that if the weather held out, she could go. but as it looked like a storm was brewing, she had to wait and see what happened.
now the weather had been ok for most of that day, but right around dusk, it began to get cloudy. the wind started to blow, and lightening began to light up the sky.
she had gone upstairs to her bedroom to take a bath, to get ready for her party.
her bathtub was located below a window that overlooked the northern part of the street.
just as she was about to enter the tub, a big clap of thunder, and a huge bolt of lightening struck the sky.
this infuriated the girl. she was sooo angry, because that meant she couldnt go to the party after all. she was so angry, that she cursed God for sending the storm.
im sure that didnt set too well with God.
anyway, a bolt of lightening came through the girls window, and it killed her.
it is said, that at dusk, on stormy nights, you can see her form in the window upstairs.
this has upset many townspeople. so they had the sexton paint the girls window. that didnt matter, her form still came through the painted glass. so the sexton boarded up the window.
to this very day, as you drive by the sextons house, you can see the boarded up window. and its said, that at times, you can still see the girl in the window on stormy nights.

I had always been skeptical about superstitions and ghost stories and folk lore until I finally tried this out for myself. Every town has stories/legends that go around and around this is one more of them....
In a small community near where I grew up there is a back woods road that if you bring your car to a complete stop, shut off the engine, and throw it into nuetral it will roll uphill about three feet and then stop. I have done this myself so I know it to be true.
The story behind this is that back in the early 70's in that very spot there was a serious accident.( I researched this in the Indpls. Library and found the news artical) One of the local schools in that area had a basketball game and where on the way back home. The bus had gotten stuck in some mud and many of the students had gotten out and where helping push the bus out when a car came around the bend out of control and hit the students and bus. Both the car and bus had caught fire and exploded after impact. All of the students, teachers and families on the bus and the person driving the car were killed.
I am sure there is some scientific explanation as to why a car will roll uphill on its own, but I tend to believe it is as everyone else my community says....it is the students.....still trying to push that bus out of the mud.

Ohhhhhhh I think Im going to love it here! I cant wait to read all the stories! I dont think I have ever had an experience with a ghost nor do I know any local stories but I have had those feelings of someone being beside me. Or the times I went in the basement at night and just knew I wasnt alone and got this real creepy feeling. I would look at my feet so I wouldnt see anything and run as fast as I could up the stairs. The whole time feeling like whatever it was, was going to grab me. I just know I would have had a heartattack if it had. (( pennylynne Scooby ))) those are great stories. Made the goose bumps all over me! /me shivers.

In honor of our dear MistyWOW being from Canada, I researched a couple of ghost stories from her country. This is what Ive found...

Ghost Tours of Niagra
Every Halloween, you might find more than just spooks and gobblins along this route. During a 2 hour walking tour of the Niagra, people have reported hearing rapping, knocking, moaning and they smell scents and feel cold spots in certain areas of the woodlands. This tour is not for the faint of heart, however. Ghosts have appeared in the forms of a little girl, several men and women.
People have felt nausea, terror and sorrow for no appearant reason. These tourists have also heard doors closing, a piano playing and furniture moving when no one is there. How about a walking tour this Halloween, are you up to it??

Here is another story I found, its called The Olde Angel Inn...
One of Ontario's oldest inns dates back to the War of 1812.
The ghost of Captain Colin Swayze walks in the inn very late at night. The workers of the inn say the ghosts are harmless...as long as the British flag is flown outside.
It's said that the Captain was killed in the basement of the inn, while waiting for his sweetheart. However, you just might meet him there, walking the halls. Is he looking for his sweetheart, or is he making sure the guests of the inn are all tucked in safe and sound in their beds? Maybe you should make your reservations and find out.
