Weirdest thing you've eaten?
What was the weirdest thing you've eaten? I was watching a show that came on before the Olympics last night and they showed the food in Beijing. They had scorpion on a stick, starfish on a stick, I even saw seahorse on a stick.

Yum <j/k> Did you know that there is a chocolate factory here in the states that uses.. scorpians, beetles, all really weird buggy things in their chocolate. It was on the Food Network. Someone tried as a joke for their son and it became an instant hit.
Go figure. Before my shell fish allergy took root, I enjoyed clams dipped in butter.

butter (steamer) clams and mussels are great. I really do dislike those big old razor clams.
Don't try to be economical and make clam chowder out of the clams necks. The necks go right through the meat grinder and I swear they get bigger. ewwwwwwwwwwwwww ick |

Wolf_angel, check a Jewish Deli for tongue. I prefer corned beef myself, but it's very definitely a jewish deli sandwich item. My mom cooked one occasionally, but it was sort of gross when she lifted that big old tongue out of the pot.<g>

ROFL that seems to give a whole new concept of tongue. <weg>
My dad loved pickled pigs feet. And my mom used to cook blood pudding which was actually not that bad. Provided you didn't think about it. When I think back we did have a lot of weird foods. Think about it liver & onions ( a comfort food I love ). Not good for me I know so don't have it often.

The strangest thing I've ever eaten was calamari. This happened the day after I told the guy I was dating at the time, "I'd NEVER eat that!" as I pointed to the squid in the grocery store. Next night, we were at an Italian restaurant and he asked if I'd like calamari as an appetiser (for everyone at the table). So, silly me, I said, sure. We were almost done with said appetiser when the guy starts laughing. When I asked what was funny, he told me, "Tell you later." I'm picking up the LAST piece of calamari, when he says, "Know why I was laughing? That's deep fried squid!!!" Eeeewwww!!!!

Also, check these out. They're early Weight Watchers cards...Thank goodness, W.W. now lets us eat real food. http://www.candyboots.com/wwcards.html I especially like the Mexican Shrimp-Orange Salad (http://www.candyboots.com/wwcards/scaryorangesalad.html) and the Caucasian Shashlik (http://www.candyboots.com/wwcards/caucasianshash.html).

I love liver and onions, especially the way my mom cooked it. Alas, those were the days before they told us how bad it is for us. Now, like Irish, once in a blue moon and that's it.
I eat a lot of things that other people consider weird, I think we all do. It's cultural, regional, etc. It makes for interesting conversation, and for PBS, barf bags are in the seatback in front of you. *g* |

rofl rofl Tammy, HOJO"s had the best clam necks. Yes I tried calamari. Absolutely NOT a favorite. I do know a lot of people that love it though. Good for them.
How about anchovies?? My oldest sister would order pizza with anchovies. The first time I tried them had no warning. They were like taking the salt from the shaker and pouring into your mouth. I'd rather pepper thank you. However not the whole shaker of pepper.
